Update: Collection Rarity & Core Fragments
We’re excited to release another update to Ethgard Legend, which introduces Collection Rarity and Core Fragments.
Collection Rarity

No more relying just on the hero you’re using to determine your chest rarity. With Collection Rarity, it’s your entire hero collection that sets the foundation. And there's more: your performance in matches now has a bigger influence on your rewards.
How It Works
Your Collection Rarity establishes the starting point for your chest. Each star you earn in a match bumps that rarity up by 5%, with a ceiling at 50%. Even if you don’t score any stars/win any rounds, you’ll still get a chest tied to your collection level. But pile up the wins, and things get interesting. Here’s an example:
- Your Collection Rarity is Common, with 9/13 progress toward Uncommon. That guarantees a Common Chest, plus a 69% chance for Uncommon straight out of the gate.
- If you rack up 10 wins (hitting that 50% boost), your baseline shifts to Uncommon, with a 19% chance for Rare.
- If the Hero you played with is an Epic/Legendary Hero, there's an extra 10% chance for an Epic/Legendary Chest.
What’s Great About It
- Balance Updates Won’t Hurt: Every video game has balancing updates, Ethgard Legends isn't any different. When Heroes get tweaked, it will have less influence on your rewards.
- Freedom to Play: Using a Common Hero you like won’t feel like a downgrade, even if you’ve got Rare or Epic ones.
And that old move of dropping rounds to choose a better hero? That's not an option anymore as you'll get a chest anyway.
Core Fragments

This update also brings Core Fragments into the mix, a new ERC1155 soulbound resource for crafting rarity cores in the Forge. You’ll find them in chests with an 80% drop chance (which climbs by 5% for Uncommon chests and beyond). Pair them with some Ethershards and you'll be able to craft the rarity core you haven't had any luck in getting in your chests.
Crafting Cores Table
Here’s what you’ll need to make each rarity core:
Core Rarity | Core Fragments Required | Ethershards Required |
---|---|---|
Uncommon | 100 | 5 |
Rare | 100 | 15 |
Epic | 100 | 75 |
Legendary | 100 | 300 |
We hope you're enjoying this update. More is on the way, so stay tuned!
Happy playing!

The game is interesting, but there's a question that bothers me... I know how you spend crypto in the game, but how is one about to earn something? I have 20 tons of crowns... and I can not sell them?
Crowns is a soulbound currency, which means you can't sell it directly, but it is an important reagent for upgrading Heroes (tradeable NFTs), which in return results in you receiving better chests, which in return contains better loot.
There is another soulbound currency within the game, Ethershards.
The difference between Crowns and Ethershards is that Crowns are earned roughly the same across all rarities, especially in regards to Quests & Leaderboards, while Ethershards are influenced by your skin in the game - i.e. collection rarity. The latter is critical since Ethershards are required to un-soulbound items and forge tradeable items. Crowns are earnable in free-2-play, Ethershards are not.

I understand. So nothing to be earned...
As we explained before, there's a lot to be earned and more coming in the near future - the system is just a bit more complex and requires some skin in the game. Looking at your crypto background going at least to 2017, you should know that just giving out tokens results in a race-to-the-bottom, red charts and poor outlooks for their projects in the long run. Even looking at Hive, you do need skin in the game to earn any rewards.
