Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets - Close Range

Hey folks ๐Ÿ˜ Graham here.

Welcome to another Splinterlands Battle Mage Challenge. Here is the original post if you want to enter a battle yourselves.

This week we are featuring the Close Range ruleset.

This means that Ranged attacks may be used in the first position in battles.

I do enjoy playing this ruleset as you get the chance to play many more ranged attack monsters in your line up than usual. This can be used to great advantage with the right cards.

My favourite go to card for this ruleset has always been that big crazy eyeball known as Cornealus! He is the perfect option to have upfront as a Tank as he has the Heal ability and massive health. Having a tank with high health and heal is always a great strategy in almost every battle situation and ruleset.

Edition: Untamed

Rarity: Legendary
Element: Neutral
Attack: Ranged
Abilities:Healing at level 1, Thorns at level 2, Return Fire at level 3 and Magic Reflect at Level 4.

Among other great cards i recommend are Pyromancer, Pyromaniac and Lava Launcher.

Strategies for Close Range

Your best option in this ruleset is to use high hitpoint ranged attack monsters up front with the Heal ability if possible.

When choosing a summoner the best strategy is to use one that grants increased ranged attack such as General Sloan, Selenia Sky and the best choice would be the mighty Yodin Zaku particularly since he also grants extra health and Blast.

You can pretty much guarantee a win when using Yodin in this ruleset.

Battle Info

This is a 17 mana level battle with only Death + Life allowed.

I have 3 cards in this battle against 4.

Life vs Death

Battle Line Up

Summoner: Octavia Shadowmeld

This was simply my best option as a dont have great Death or Life cards. I focus on Water, Dragon and Earth.

First Place: Cornealus

As i previously mentioned having a Tank with high health and the Heal ability is a great strategy in almost any situation and this is only possible for Cornealus during this ruleset.

Second Place: Creeping Ooze

This slimeball is here to take a hit for the team and to slow our opponents down a notch. Speed is an often overlooked stat which can frequently lead to some devastating defeats in the battlefield.

Third Place: Furious Chicken

The sacrificial lamb...never forget ur chicken..๐Ÿ˜

Battle Walkthrough

This first round begins with a bang as we see the enemies Magi Nacrosi monster killing Creeping Ooze.

I get some revenge as Cornealus wipes out the enemies tank called Chaos Agent with relative ease.

The second round starts with Magj Necrosi killing my Chicken..if she was Furious before she must be livid now ๐Ÿคฃ

Round the begins and all 3 enemy monsters take there best shots at Cornealus but his Heal ability keeps him going will he slowly picks them off one by one.

After a few rounds of this in round 6 we see Cornealus killing Riftwing and then taking out the last two enemies in round 7.

This was a pretty cool battle and i wasnt sure i was going to win. I will definitely use the same line up and strategy again in other battles.

Check out the Great Battle to see him in action!
