Why Tito Santana Forfeited The ECW Heavyweight Championship

avatar

Tito Santana only wrestled in ECW for one night, yet he had 3 matches. The second match that night saw Tito defeat Don Muraco for the ECW (then NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling) Heavyweight Chamnpionship. The above video includes his reasons for not returning to defend the title, and you also will see Shane Douglas (w/ Paul E. Dangerously) was given the title in Roanoke Virginia (although this is disputed here:https://www.prowrestlinghistory.com/ecw/results/ecwtitles.html) when Tito did not defend the belt: https://ecwwrestling.com/champions

This recent interview with Shane Douglas discusses the fabricated history around this title change:

Here are Tito Santana's three matches in ECW from that lone night on August 8, 1993:

  • Tito Santana defeated Vladimir Koloff
  • Tito Santana & Stan Hansen defeated Don Muraco & Shane Douglas via disqualification
  • Tito Santana defeated ECW Champion Don Muraco to win the title

It is unknown at this time if his match with Vladimir Koloff had Tito as the champion or if this match took place before his championship victory over Muraco.
