Question About Augmented Reality For Pro Wrestling Fans
A quick question about the use of Augmented Reality for pro wrestling fans: How would you use the new technology for today's pro wrestling industry, assuming that you wouldn't force any fan to have to use special glasses or headsets? In other words the fans just would need their smart phones.
The above image (from Artstation.com) is an example of what a 3D graphic file (GLB or other file) could look like for Andre The Giant. Since most wrestling fans today never even had the opportunity to take their photo standing next to Andre, this could be an example of evoking high emotion in fans - exactly what professional wrestling was designed to do!
For example, there are some new Augmented Reality platforms which allow now for hyper-specific placement of 3D objects like the Andre example. If you were WWE, in theory you could place this content outside the arena's ticket window for an upcoming show. Fans, via social media or other means (on the online ticket confirmation or email notification) could be given a link or QR code. The link would let the fans know that by the ticket window for that specific arena (such as the fictional Northeast corner of the building) that fans waiting in line could "see" Andre The Giant standing there in Augmented Reality; but that the link would be pulled from that spot by the next day by WWE. This would incentivize fans to be at the arena for a very specific amount of time, such as from 5:00pm the afternoon of the show through very early the next morning when a WWE employee would remove the content from that specific location. The company then could place it at the relevant location outside the ticket area for the next arena in the next town.
Fans then could have location enabled on their phones, click the link or scan the QR code, and see Andre on their phones. Fans then could take their photos & short video clips standing next to the 3D version of Andre; and WWE could monetize this "high emotion" moment with a relevant link, such as to Andre's page on WWE's Shop website (link would go here).
Some of the new A.R. platforms also permit small video files instead of 3D object files.
Do you think that this new kind of technology could help the wrestling industry, being able to place 3D object files and/or small video files & images anywhere on Earth? If you do, then please consider adding your replies and thoughts on how it could help encourage fans to become more connected to the promotion and/or the wrestlers, how it could help the promotions financially, and how it could open up new opportunities to grow the wrestling fan base to start to bring in fans from other sports and/or other kinds of spectator entertainment.
Thank you for any ideas for this technology as well as yesterday's post on using web3 in the wrestling industry, in particular for the "nostalgia" side of the sport:
That’s such a cool idea! Using AR to bring legends like Andre The Giant to life would make wrestling events so much more exciting. It’s amazing how technology can connect fans to their favorite stars in new and creative ways.
Thanks! I am open to any other ideas about using tech like this to make things easier for fans to interact directly anywhere on Earth, not just seeing A.R. through one's TV or computer screen.
