VENARI BONESMITH

Any time I come across rodents with powers my mind goes back to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s been a long time coming but the Venari is finally part of my collection. I was particularly drawn to the name which I looked up and translates as to hunt. Now imagine if a Bonesmith ( someone who can sense, control and conjure the dead) is who loves to hunt is chasing you in the middle of the night. That sure sounds like a the start of a classic Horror movie.
There is the great deal of imagination that the #splinterlands takes me to and I love to always journey there.
Just like I did last week, I started the piece with my Black pen and followed it through to a relevant point.
I then completed the process here. The entire sketch was mostly improvised. The only thing I had copied was the eyes, nose and mouth and even most of those were changed. As a result I was caught of with getting a firm shape and almost forgot to have a clear cut layout.
At this point everything was falling to place and I had but to just trust the process..
Once I was done with the body I thought of the vile and skull he held and how they were not represented in my art. This didn’t seem fair as the card character has been a much anticipated one. I then thought of drawing these one a shelf since a Bonesmith should had a collection of his at least. The idea sat well with me and after running it just a little, it took form
I then continued by bringing life to the bones and viles on the shelf by adding colors and a little bit more tone
Then I brought a little bit of life to the card itself by implying layers on different inks on his body and carving that which I thought necessary.
And lastly after much work I added depths to the areas of the background, clothing and body as a final touch
The materials I used while making this sketch are Yellow, Black, Green, Sky Blue and Red pens.
