50,000 genuine daily active players during that time.

That is a huge estimation for unique human players. For that to be true, then we've lost around 95% of our player base from the bull to the bear market. I find that hard to believe, but it could be true. I came at the end of the bull market wave in December 2021 after going home for Thanksgiving and seeing all my Magic the Gathering cards collecting dust in my mom's closets.

SPS and DEC have shown impressive action lately.

Splinterlands has always been a bit decoupled from the BTC and crypto market in general. Our game tokens really depend on microfactors within our game ecosystem rather than the general macrofactors affecting crypto as a whole. I think we are in a good position to ride the second bull wave this spring/summer when CA comes out. Nice timing from SMC to drop the set when the markets will be frothing.

I sure am! I've been slowly building up my HP and HBD positions as I get more consistent with posting to Hive. For my first 18 months here, I posted quite infrequently, and I funneled most of my rewards back into Splinterlands to buy more assets. But to start 2024, I made the commitment to try to post daily activity summaries via Actifit and additional Splinterlands content on PeakD and Snaps. It has been a lot of fun watching my account grow. Which reminds me, today is HPUD! Gotta get my HIVE ready!

As I reflect on the past five years of Hive, I can’t help but feel grateful that Splinterlands was my gateway into this ecosystem.

Here is how I came up to this estimate:

  1. At the top of this pump in Splinterlands we have over 500k active users if we assume 90% were bots you have 50k left
  2. I have seen a number of guilds go down to 0 players from being full. In THGaming alone we had 5 guilds full of players at one time, now we have one guild left and we had to refill it many times, still we are down to 18 players from 21 with only a couple original players still around.

I really do think we lost 90% of the players.

I don't doubt a loss of 90% of players, I just don't think we ever got to 50K. I think maybe we had some active players playing multiple accounts (similar to the bot armies). For my first few years, I played three accounts manually, but with current changes, I'm back down to two accounts running, with only one being manual.
