Splinterlands Leading the Web3 Gaming Push into the Bull Run

avatar

During the last bull run I was searching for games that allowed you to win cryptocurrency. Axie Infinity was the talk of the town and I definitely looked into it. It seemed like an easy $500-$700 to purchase a starting team and to start playing. During my research, the other game that kept popping up on my radar was Splinterlands, an online trading card game that made it possible not just to earn crypto, but also to earn NFT trading cards that you could then play. And, with only a $10 entry fee to purchase a spellbook, I was suddenly able to start earning crypto from the battles I won. It didn't take me long to be hooked.

Two things really catapulted me into the Splinterlands universe head on: pulling my first legendary card, which was a Spirit Hoarder, and the second was checking my PeakD account on Hive. I had written a quick intro blog about myself and put it out there to the Hive community, and to my surprise it had accumulated about $23 worth of the Hive and HBD crypto tokens. I had no idea that you could make crypto by blogging on Hive, and then spend it on Splinterlands to level up or buy new assets. I've been blogging and playing ever since.

Since January of 2022 when I joined Splinterlands, I've noticed a lot of changes and improvements to the game and the entire experience. It is also one of the best times for new players to get into the game. Let me explain.

A new set has recently dropped, called Rebellion. A lot was learned by the team from the last set's massive print of 12.5 million packs, and subsequent pack promos and pack discounts. The leadership team of Splinterlands is promising no discounted packs or promos for this set of 10 million Rebellion pack so the price will most likely stay steady.... until they run out. I think the price will soar after that. Because I also didn't mention there is a massive burn rate on these packs. Over 1.5 million have already been burned out of the total 10 million that existed.

So, while you can't get those packs for cheap, new players can stock up on the previous set for a big discount. Chaos legion packs are selling for less than $1 on Hive. Clutch legendary cards for beginners like Djinn Oshanus can be bought for $.78 cents! I also saw a complete set of max bronze Chaos Legion cards for sale on Peakmonsters.com for less than $200. It is just a steal at the moment. And the wonderful things about all that, is that now you own all those assets, can rise through the ranks increasing your rewards, and my thoughts are that they are going to start rising in price pretty fast. That is where this next part comes in.

There is a massive overhaul to the ranked play system in Splinterlands coming next Thursday. Instead of leagues that give you maximum level caps for your cards, it is going to a one ranked ladder system where any card goes. There is no limit on cards (minus the limit that your Summoner's level is), and there is no penalty for using lower level cards either. All of these cheap Chaos Legion summoners are going to be the first to go up. (Kelya has already risen more than 100% in the last couple of days). Then the rest of Chaos legion and chaos packs will follow. So get in now while the price is so phenomenal.

Once you get that all set up then you can focus on getting some Rebellion cards and joining the battles for new legendary airdrop cards coming. Or buy up some plots of land and get ready for Land 2.0 and crafting coming out.

I'm very bullish on the tokenomics of the game and how it effects the entire ecosystem. The easiest way to get funds into the ecosystem is to buy credits through something like paypal. You can buy anything you need on the in-game market with credits and they are always $1 + 1000 credits. The main stablecoin in Splinterlands is DEC, or dark energy crystals. A lot has gone in to creating sinks and burns where DEC stays mostly pegged to $1 = 1000DEC. You can see below that DEC has stayed pretty level over the past 60 days.

SPS is the third crypto which you can earn from winning battles. This can be staked, to earn around 13% APR, as well as earning more SPS per battle win. SPS can also be burned to get DEC to purchase cards, land, titles and other NFT assets. SPS is the token that I see taking off during this next bull run. And with it, all the assets in the game. Those that get in now are in a prime position to see their investment rise. The big difference in doing that with something like Splinterlands, rather than just investing in Bitcoin or Ether, is that you get to have a ton of fun while doing it.

The community around the game is amazing. Everyday I check for updates on X from other Splinterlands players, I check PeakD for great Splinterlands articles and daily giveaways from community members, and there is always something going on the Splinterlands Discord server.

I also highly suggest joining a guild within the game. It is one the funnest ways to be a part of the community. Guild brawl happen every few days and the rewards can be quite lucrative. Especially since you can earn special Gladiator cards that can now be used in the regular ranked play as well (with certain summoners and rule sets.)

My guild is Knights of Praetoria and we do have a few open slots if anyone is looking for a top guild to join. We are in Tier 4 brawls with only one tier higher to go.

When I look around at the Web3 space now, it seems that not many games survived this last bear market. Splinterlands seems to have come through it stronger than ever and poised to explode once the world comes looking for crypto games again. Add to that a big marketing push from the Splinterlands team in the near future, and being featured next month on Apple TV's Killer Whales crypto gaming episode, I think now is the time to get involved, if you haven't already.

Three minutes. That is all you need to earn some crypto and know that you just outsmarted your opponent. It feels good to be stacking your crypto bag while having fun playing a game. I actually haven't touched a regular video game since I started playing Splinterlands. I just can't imagine putting all that time in and not owning your winnings. Even if I had to take time away from the game, I could still rent my cards out and have them earn for me while I'm gone!

And send me a message. I would love to help new folks get on their feet and learn all there is to know about this amazing game.
