A New Drawing and Watercolor "Lady with a Cat"

Today's sketch and paitning are a study for a digital oil I will be doing. Per my usual process I love to start with scratches in my journal and then pencil on paper to scan to digital.

Our lovely lady in her sketch form.

I have to say, loving black and white and sketches as well, I'm thinking in her state, such as this, she could be rather lovely with some bold black inking. I'm considering using her in this state in that way for some things. I really could see her on things, graphically. I'd add more contrast with bold blocks of black somewhere and if and when I do you may see her reappear here.

But, today it's layers; glorious layers of watercolor to play with ideas of skin tone, fabric and over all mood of the piece.

The lady begins to appear in the black and white world

Her furry chum grows forward too, a Tabby but with dyed pink hair; would you expect anything less of such a lady?

Let us give her a darker background so her lovely pink frock pops, maybe suggesting the blue sky so popular in 18th c portraiture?

One wonders, has the lady dyed her cat to match her frock or the other way round?

And finally the joyful and playful splatters that add depth to the background as well as spotted detail to our feline friend and some interest to our lady's décolletage.

Now, I've called this iteration of my painting "The lady with a Cat" quite obvious, but I think when I do the oil version, I might add a fan or some item to her hand. Then I can title it something like: "lady with a fan" which I'd love as it'd be that tongue and cheek title which says, 'look here this lady has a fan' while we all know, the most obvious point of her wardrobe, is she is wearing her best friend upon her head like a coiffure, but I rather like a bit humour in a title.

She shall return in oil

As I currently have her up on my digital easel working on her currently. But, alas, like so many other artists, I'm also dabbing away at 2 or 3 other things. I think sometimes I became an artist simply to allow myself to be scattered and wishy washy and never pin down one goal.
a messy studio and a pile of work is considered the norm for an artist and a sin for the office worker
Right there, one can see the advantage to the job title.

I hope you enjoyed my new piece and I can't end without my beloved GIF:

They never fail to amuse me. I suppose I could offer this one as an #NFT, perhaps I'll follow thru this time on that one, but who can say, being a scattered artist I've the prerogative to waffle and flake on such promises.

Thank you for joining me on this little lady with an animal journey today and I hope you find a moment in your day to indulge in whatever passion moves you and as always, stay creative!
