The Ruleset

image.png

  • Rulesets - Target Practice, Taking Sides & Melee Mayhem
  • Mana Cap - 15
  • Active Elements - image.png image.png image.png

Here's my starting lineup

Summoner: Thaddius Brood

  • With the ruleset, mana cap and element pick that I got I really had two decent options to play here
  • One was fire element and Tarsa with full melee based comp but the reason I did not pick it was that I really did not have a great low mana cost melee tank to put in front
  • And the second was death element and Thaddius Brood with a little bit weaker team backline but decent low mana cost tank to put in front
  • So in my case I went with the second option as I needed a decent front line so my strong backline could deal the real damage
1st Position: Wily Coyotian

  • Wily Coyotian was my main tank for this battle
  • Main reason I like Wily Coyotian here a lot is his decent hp and armor count for only 2 mana
  • Even tho his attack stat was quite sad I still decided to play him as i had a strong backline coming and I only needed his hp and armor
  • I usually go with a low mana cost neutral tank but in this battle it was not possible cause Taking Sides was active so I had to opt for the second best option I had
2nd Position: Corpse Spawn

  • Corpse Spawn was here just to tank one attack
  • Maybe even get a attack off somehow but that was unlikely
  • But the bigger picture was that why not play him he costs 0 mana and I had room left over
3rd Position: Broken Earth Thug

image.png

  • Next up was my first damage dealer
  • All of my damage dealers had to be low mana as I did not have much left
  • Picked him because of how many stats you get for only 3 mana
  • 2 melee damage, 3 speed, 3hp, 1 armor and two amazing abilities being Opportunity so he was able to attack from the backlines and Cripple incase my enemy should decide to play any healer monster
  • Opportunity - Targets the enemy unit with the least health
  • Cripple - -1 to target's max health after each successful attack. Does not affect units with Immunity
4th Position: Skeleton Assassin

  • For my other backline melee was Skeleton Assassin the speed master
  • I really do like Skeleton Assassin just because how fast he is
  • I believe I do not own any other 3 mana monster who has 5 speed
  • Also his other stats were quite decent enough to play him for this battle
  • Sneak - Targets the enemy unit in the last position
5th Position: Haunted Spider

  • For last but not least was a single ranged monster for team
  • I really was not a big fan of playing ranged monster here at first but I just ran out of good melee and magic monsters to play here
  • And the reason why I was fine playing him in the end was that he was the Poison ability which I really like and if it managed to proc was going to make a huge diff in the outcome of the battle
  • Also he himself had decent damage stats so I think picking him was really okei decision
  • Poison - 50% chance to apply Poisoned after a successful attack. Poisoned units lose 2 health at the beginning of each round

Starting board

image.png

  • After seeing the starting board I was quite on the fence which way the battle will go as I had more damage but if my enemy manages to get couple Bloodlust take downs the battle could swing to his favor real fast
  • I now needed to hope that I will get to his Bloodlust monster fast enough and take him down before the stacks start to rack up on him
  • But my predictions could still be off by a mile so lets start the battle and have a look

Here's how the battle went

1st Round

image.png

  • After first round the board was still looking quite the same as in the start
  • Both of us still had our full boards alive
  • The sad thing was that even tho I was going to take one of him monsters in the start of the next round with my Poison my enemy was going to get his first Bloodlust stack already
  • But anything could still happen so lets keep watching
2nd Round

image.png

  • After 2nd Round I was down two monsters while my enemy was down 3 monsters which was a win for me
  • Also my enemy did not manage to get a second Bloodlust take down which was really good
  • And more my next monster up had a single armor which was hopefully going to save this battle for me
  • But in a case were my enemy should get that stack I think the battle is over for me
  • Lets hope for the best and keep watching
3rd Round

image.png

  • The 3rd round was so huge for me for one reason only
  • In the end I managed to hit the 50% Poison which was going to take down his Bloodlust monster in the start of the next round and that secured me my victory
  • Now I just needed to wait for the start of the final round and then face my victory
4th Round

image.png

  • It took me one Poison proc and a single attack to kill my enemies last standing monsters
  • After his Jared Scar and Soul Spawn had fallen I took the victory
  • Battle Replay Link

Summary

  • This battle was definitely closer than I would have wanted but still fun to watch
  • The strategy to take away from this battle is get lucky with your Poison proc :)) gotta love RNG
  • But for real I believe that if there is something to take away from this battle it is that most of the times playing many low mana monster is better than playing a single high mana cost monster
  • In the end it comes down to what you have in your deck and what level these monsters are
