HahaTai is a YouTube channel established in 2015. Just like its name suggests, it produces all sorts of funny videos with the hope of making its audience laugh out loud. Sometimes, after dinner, when I open YouTube, it immediately recommends HahaTai to me, which suggests that I might be part of their target audience.

I usually watch HahaTai’s street interviews. These interviews cover controversial topics and are conducted randomly with ordinary people in various cities and regions of Taiwan. The videos aim to present "real, random, and natural" responses, which is a characteristic that appeals to some young people. Is it considered a self-media? I'm not sure. There are online rumors claiming that many of the people HahaTai interviews are fake, but it's hard to say. After all, the more popular you are, the more gossip surrounds you. In today’s society, it’s difficult to distinguish truth from falsehood, so I just take it as entertainment. Life is simpler that way.

While passing through the Baroque Garden at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, where I often go, I saw many booths and a lot of people walking around. It turned out HahaTai was hosting an event. I passed by a booth called GagaOOLala, where they handed me a fan. GagaOOLala is an exclusive online video platform for the LGBTQ community, known as the “gay Netflix”. It seems HahaTai is really good at marketing, bringing in such attention-grabbing partners. But hey, they gave me a fan, so props to them.

At HahaTai’s main stage, they invited previous interviewees and performers to share their experiences. Among them was the band Mango Jump, which went from being unknown college students to a popular new-generation rock band. I hadn’t heard of Mango Jump before, and I didn’t recognize the other performers either. I was just there for the fun. The coolest part was that HahaTai’s interview microphone was blown up into a four-meter version, and tons of people were taking pictures with it. There were also several HahaTai gashapon machines around the park, with ultra-private member photo cards inside. Overall, I really appreciate HahaTai’s concept, though I’m not sure how long they can keep it going.
