Maybe you shaved your head because you were balding and found that keeping it clean-shaven looked stylish. Or perhaps you wanted to showcase a tough guy look. When you think of bald icons, who comes to mind? Is it the wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Vin Diesel from "Fast and Furious", or the well-known Chinese entertainer Xu Zheng? The bald guy I encountered was a street performer named Hu Qizhi.

Hu Qizhi is a well-known street artist who competed in the second season of "China's Got Talent", making it to the finals as one of the top four contestants. He also performed on the Chinese New Year's Gala. Despite his fame, which could command a high fee for commercial performances, he seems to have stayed true to his roots, still often performing on the streets. One day, as usual, I walked out of the MRT station and saw a small crowd gathered at the exit. I took a closer look and thought, "Oh! I think I've seen that muscular bald guy on TV". A few years ago, I often saw some of my friends sharing videos of his performances, so I had a vague memory of him.

In those shared videos, Hu Qizhi performed shirtless, wearing white pants, showing off his muscles. With powerful music playing, a small crystal ball danced around his arms, flipping and flying as if it had a life of its own, but it never escaped his grasp. This time, watching him perform live on the street, he was still shirtless, in white pants, showing off his muscles. He held a large iron ring as tall as himself, with a focused and intense look in his eyes. As the music played, he danced with the iron ring, creating an incredible display of strength and beauty. I was amazed to witness such a fantastic performance right there on the street.

Taipei's bustling streets often feature street performers with acts like singing, playing instruments, magic, dancing, and juggling. Many performers start on the streets to gain confidence, earn some money, and wait for their big break. The government, in promoting urban aesthetics, not only provides venues but also offers related support measures. However, the competition among street performers is fierce, as it takes years of practice to perfect a ten-minute performance. It's rare to see a famous performer willing to give back to the public by continuing to perform on the streets. I hope the culture of street performances continues to grow in a positive direction.
