Greeting My Fellow Summoners

I hope we all are having a good day, as I write this post in weekend, I hope we all are having a great weekends. Today splinterlands post is about Foundation card. I am not talking about what foundation card is, but I am talking about why this card although a bit useless, they are good as an element of surprise.

Ok let say about the bad thing, they are a bit useless...

Let's see Kicking Roc. He demands 8 mana and maximum at level 3. Honestly as an epic 8 mana unit, he is no where to be bad. But he is not a great one, nor a good one. He is just a plain one. Why do I say that, let's compare with other card from a main edition...

Swell Spore Beast from Rebellion set. This creature has harder attack damage and some armor for it's protection. He has two abilities which something Kicking Roc doesn't have. Honestly the only bad thing about this card is it's name, it's weird and I feel weird typing it's name.

Overall I will pick Swell Spore Beast over Kicking Roc. I can not see which part or which side that Kicking Roc is better than this beast. I can not see which Meta that Kicking Roc is working better than Swell Spore Beast.

So we do not need Kicking Roc, that's the hard fact if... you are a very competitive player who want to collect all the cards out there. If you are a more casual player, let say you are similar to me who buy cards for fun and not paying max to get more win, things are different.

As much as I like Swell Spore Beast, I do not own this card. I do not feel any urge to spend more to get this card. It's just an extra expenditure. I believe many casual players think the same as me, which make us vulnerable because our opponent knows it too... They know we don't have it LoL

This is where Foundation card comes in handy. I often win using foundation card not because they are strong, but more on my opponents did not anticipate it before. They did not expect I had a card like that!

HIGHLIGHTED BATTLE

It will not a good Splinterlands post if we don't employ in a battle, right?

This was a hard battle for some people because of the going the distance ruleset. It was a battle of range units, a battle of archers. Why was it hard? because the units were very limited and only range were available.

During this ruleset I believed they main decisive point was about having your tank won the battle. The stronger your tank, the longer they lived. the higher your change to win this battle.

So let break down that main key into several condition:

1. I must have strong tank, or stronger tank than my opponent.
2. My team has to have a backup tank, if the main tank falls down.
3. A healer or support is needed at any cost, they prolong the tank life.
4. Because it's a battle of tank, we need to have a damage dealer, a DPS unit, or whatever you call it, because you need to knock off your opponent tank sooner before your own tank falls off.

Based on those 4 steps, you could see that the only different between my team and their team was the 2nd step. They did not have backup tank at all. They tried to compensate it by having bigger fire power.

And this was what happened in the first round. They lost their tank, Steppe Stalker. This was the point that they were signing a guarantee to lose battle. It was almost impossible to win without any tank, it was not impossible but almost...

However the combination of Desolation and Bren Palesworn was incredible. These two legendary units could keep up with the condition and killed my secondary tank, Molten Elemental.

This was the point where Kicking Roc became dominant. He became my main DPS unit, the one which ended up carry my team to finish line.

Ok now this turned to 2 vs 3, luckily my Kicking Roc killed their Grimwald Ruinshot first, so it eliminate their sneaking squad. I lost my Portly Cannoneer in the previous round.

Round 5 was not the last, but I sealed the victory here. I put his last range unit onto idle condition, becoming a sandbag.

There are many points that can be debated here. Who are the real MVP here, my Quilluin Legionary? or Satha Toledo? Did I win because my opponent was weak, or my meta outsmart them?
