Taunt, Tank, Triumph: Winning with Heloise

Hello Battle Mages, for today’s social media challenge, I am going to show you one of my Heloise The Hollow-led battles. I didn’t really get to use Heloise much because I was only able to rent her for two days due to how expensive she was, and in those 2-day period, I was very occupied and wasn’t able to take her to battle as frequently as I would’ve loved/planned to. This was one of the few decent battles I was able to win with Heloise .

This battle had no ruleset and all elements were active, so I had a lot of options to choose from for the battle, especially since Heloise could be summoned with both a death and earth summoner. The high mana cap of the battle also added extra flexibility, because that meant I could choose my most powerful units without having to worry about mana cost.

My opponent’s line up

My line up and strategy

Summoner123456

When I peeked my opponent’s strategy before battle, I noticed he was fond of using Tarsa and Thadius Brood, so I tried to select a strategy that could withstand either of them, since both earth and death were active. They ended up coming to battle with Tarsa.

What I hate about Tarsa is that with the right arrangement, even an average starter deck can beat you if you come to battle with low health but powerful monsters (which is usually the case commonly). Magic monsters are a serious pain because unless you have a summoner like Immortalis that gives friendly units void, how many monsters with void ability can you have in your line up?

The Strategy

I had Forgotten One as my tank because his stats are very well rounded – Powerful melee attack, okay speed, good armor, and good health. This would be enough to hold off at least a first round of attacks regards of whether my opponent has magic monsters or not. You’ll understand why as we go down the line up.

In second position, I had Mycelic Slipspawn, mainly for its taunt, but also for it’s okay magic attack. Interesting thing if you noticed in the lineup earlier, is that it’s not the only taunt in the lineup. One of the objectives of my line up was to ensure that all the units in one way or the other support each other. So even my tank was chosen in a way that it doesn’t get crushed fast and force mycelic slipspawn into tank position.

Behind mycelic slipspawn, Heloise The Hollow stands strong. See, slipspawn’s placement as second position was also strategically to protect Heloise which doesn’t have high health and could be targeted by opportunists. So you could say

I put slipspawn there to mask Heloise’s taunt. But I also needed Heloise’s taunt so that in case slipspawn was taken out, she could serve as a distraction to buy the next monster in my line up, Mordeus some time to unleash more fury.

The monsters I put at the end of my line up are not typically monsters I place in that position for obvious reasons. I’m sure you thought I was naïve or something along those lines when you were saw them there. I put them there because I noticed from my opponent’s past battles that they didn’t have a reputation of sneaking. So it was more of gamble on my certainty that my opponents will NOT surprise me in that way. But even if they do, I had two taunts to protect them.

For Spirit Hoarder, his role in the line up was simple – keep my taunts alive. Scavo Hireling had a similiar role too, but just performed in a different way. My tank was strategically selected to have more armor so that I could use scavo in place of a tank heal which cost more mana.

How do you think the battle went? Take a guess and watch the battle via the link below to find out.
