Alice: Madness Returns - Review (A Terrifying Adventure)

Hello Colleagues... It's a pleasure to be in this nice community sharing my content and contributing my grain of sand, I just hope this is the beginning of a great adventure.
For my first content I want to share with you one of my many video game reviews. I must say that this time I feel a little out of my comfort zone, since I usually go more towards the old school world, the retro world, the world that never dies.
But as I have already told you, today I want to start a new adventure in this great community... And without further ado, let's begin!

Alice: Madness Returns makes its appearance in the world of video games on June 14, 2011 in the United States and shortly after in Europe. It was developed by Spicy Horse and distributed by Electronic Arts.
Alice: Madness Returns is a Platform, Action and Adventure game, is the continuation of American McGee's Alice which came out in 2000 and that like its sequel, was a platform game with touches of action.

To understand a little of its history we must place ourselves in that first installment of the year 2000. This tells us how in a fateful night Alice lost her entire family in a fire, this led her to a state of dementia and denial for what had happened to her family. It was as a result of this that the world of “Wonderland” would appear, which to tell the truth had nothing wonderful about it. This world was dark, terrifying and it can also be said that it was deranged, disgusting and very scary.

In Alice: Madness Returns, the protagonist has apparently not been able to heal from all her mental illnesses and traumas caused by that night in which she lost her entire family. As in the previous installment, Alice will return to that scary and submissive wonderland in chaos, in a much worse state than the first time.
Alice has the difficult mission to cure the dementia that has been harassing her for a long time and also to find out what really happened that night when her parents died.

The adventure begins somewhere in London with a very sad and deplorable panorama, for that moment the adventure is still in a kind of prologue before starting the macabre 5 chapters of Alice: Madness Returns.

Once inside the world of Wonderland we will encounter a three-dimensional platform game and at the same time linear. It is important to mention that sometimes there are some alternative paths, but these do not influence the exact direction that the player must take, since these paths are more towards the search for some collectibles, which also do not influence the development of the game.

In Alice: Madness Returns we will have quite practical controls, we will have a double jump quite easy to control, although at the beginning it is most likely that the movement of the camera is somewhat tedious, but there is nothing to be begged with a good time of practice. We will also have available the ability to dodge, this ability is a kind of teleportation which will be quite useful when facing enemies.

We will also have several weapons, among them we have the Vorpal Sword, which is a simple knife, but with a devilish edge.
The Pepper Mill, this weapon will allow you to make repetitive shots as if it were a machine gun.
The Toy Horse, this weapon is a kind of axe, quite slow when executing the attack but effective when killing.
The Teapot, this weapon is a kind of cannon that launches explosives at long distance.
Umbrella, this will serve as a kind of shield to repel some of the attacks of the enemies.
Clockwork Rabbit, this is an explosive with a detonator, which serves mostly to knock down weak walls.

As for the enemies I must say that there are not many and even some of them will accompany Alice until the end of the adventure, this usually turns out to be somewhat repetitive for the player, but I would dare to say that it is something acceptable in a platform game. We will find a variety of sizes among them and some more creepy than others, as the adventure progresses many of these characters are incorporated, but despite that the sequence of their attacks end up being practically the same.

graficos.png

For the time I must say that this section left a little to be desired. Alice: Madness Returns handles fairly simple textures with unremarkable modeling.
What can be highlighted is the work that was done in terms of the protagonist of the game, in many parts of the adventure you can see the movement of the hair, to tell the truth, it is very well done, personally it was one of the things that caught my attention at the time of playing it. Another strong point in terms of graphic work in the protagonist, are the variety of dresses that arise as the adventure progresses, these are also very well worked and are very original.

Now as for the setting, despite the simple textures and modeling, this conveys quite well everything that we are shown from the beginning, a terrifying world full of uncertainty and anguish at its best.

This section can be said that it complies, although in the same way it does not end up being a big deal. What can be highlighted is the harmony that can be perceived with the environment, they are quite accurate details that end up fitting quite well, although it is also important to say that in some parts of the adventure end up being a bit repetitive.

veredicto final.png

Despite being a rather poor game when we talk technically about graphics and sound, Alice: Madness Returns maintains a good aesthetic and a rather addictive gameplay. The heartbreaking and scary world makes the player get into the skin of the protagonist, making the player try to get to the end of the adventure just to find out the disturbing truth why Alice's family died.
