I finally tried out the P2E card game Gods Unchained
I had to see what the hype was about š
Sometimes I am reluctant to force myself to try new things. If I've already increased my skill levels to a high degree with something that I'm familiar with, then why attempt to learn a brand new skill? The simple answer is that growth is valuable in human existence. Whether you think a god created you, nature, or whatever it may be, we were sent here to acquire experience. What exactly this XP is going to be used for once it is all over is pretty blurry. Nonetheless, I am all about leveling up in life as much as possible. I may be slicing and dicing my way through life just fine with my trusty katana, but maybe there is an enchanted blade waiting for me somewhere to increase my chance of winning even more. If you catch my drift, most gamers should understand what I mean.
The weekend before last, I made myself play https://godsunchained.com/ even though I know little to nothing about it. I did the same with Splinterlands a while back and just couldn't get into how that game "plays". I gave Gods Unchained a chance because I saw @belemo mention that there is more to the gameplay. I've also witnessed @acidyo sign up hundreds of new users to Hive who are posting in the Gods On Chain Community. The dude has got to be feeling exhausted from all of the work that goes into getting new people active on Hive. Props for that, I see you doing the heavy lifting.
I didn't have my hopes set too high with Gods Unchained, I'm pretty spoiled with all the amazing games out on my PS5. I know P2E is still very early in its life and it will surely become something massive. I trust that there will be a day when I genuinely want to spend my free time playing the games that allow me to earn. It just hasn't happened yet.
After putting it off for months, I finally created my Gods Unchained account and downloaded the application on my desktop. I like how smooth the app runs on my computer. It's not in 4K or anything, but the art and animations are on point. This game looks really cool and I cannot deny it that compliment. This isn't some barebones game, there is a lot to it and I can tell it's something that many will get into hardcore.
I started out with a detailed tutorial match, but even after that, I was far from an expert on strategy. I had so many questions and couldn't begin to tell you how one would build a strong deck. I still don't understand what is good against what. I have so much to learn, luckily there are plenty of resources out there, specifically in this awesome community.
I've really only ever taken the time to learn two card games from top to bottom. Those of course would be PokƩmon and Yu-Gi-Oh. As a child, I fell in love with those two games. Sadly I pretty much never had anybody to play them with, so I never got to put my skills to the test. I would play against myself and look through my cards more than anything. Eventually, video games came out, but I was kind of past playing with cards when that happened. I tried them but was more interested in other things back then. Picking up new card games is pretty hard for me. I always end up wishing I were playing PokƩmon or Yu-Gi-Oh instead. I cannot wait until they bring these two games to the blockchain. That may take a while though, it doesn't sound like the new F2P PokƩmon TCG Live is going to have NFTs. I feel like Yu-Gi-Oh may do it before PokƩmon.
Back to Gods Unchained. After the tutorial, I played my first ranked match. It seemed to go on for far longer than I expected it to. I was able to make plays but wasn't quite sure if they were good ideas or bad. It stayed pretty close for about 20 minutes, then all of a sudden things went to shit. My opponent started throwing attack after attack at my God and the next thing I knew, I was finished.
I am shitty at this game, but I didn't give up after one loss. At least the game was smart and rewarded me with a bunch of card packs just for losing. I logged off that night and came back to the game a few days later. I jumped into another ranked game and hoped that maybe this time I'd win. Sadly I got smashed in an even quicker fashion. This second match wasn't even close. I barely got a few hits in on the opposing God and mine was down to zero before I could say Gods Damn Unchained.
I sense that I am not going to be able to push myself to figure this game out. Even if it does reward me, it still just isn't as enjoyable as sitting down and playing some beautiful and addicting games on my PS5. I really do wish there was a card game that played like PokƩmon TCG. I know the rules of that game already. I understand how to build a strong deck. I have a nostalgic feeling when I play it. I would enjoy a P2E in this style. Every other card game I've played so far just doesn't feel like a good time to me.
I am extremely curious about an upcoming P2E game called Chifibots. Pronounced Chee-fi-bots and meaning Chibi Fighting Robots. I heard @flauwy and @kevinli of @nftstudios talking about this on a podcast with @jongolson and @taskmaster4450. Here is a link to that.
What is funny is that just a few weeks before this podcast, I had received a message from an old buddy @steemcafe about https://nftstudios.online/chifibots/. The stars are aligning and telling me that this is going to be the game to finally get me to start enjoying P2E games. I specifically remember Kevin talking about how there is a lot of similarities with PokƩmon TCG, this excites me tremendously.
I don't see myself getting into Gods Unchained, just like I couldn't get into Splinterlands. Many will tell me I'm missing out on big opportunities with both, but they just are not interesting to me. I am keeping my eye out for a game that does speak to me. As of right now, it seems like Chifibots may just be that game. I'm excited to be a part of that game from its inception, rather than jumping in months after it has already been out.
Gods among us š
Now, this is where you can tell me I'm crazy for not enjoying Gods Unchained very much. Are you excited about Chifibots? Or will you be sticking with Gods Unchained? Maybe Splinterlands is your thing. There are so many P2E options out there. Let me know if there is something else out there that I should be looking at. I'm a picky gamer and won't play the game if it doesn't entertain me a lot.

It sucks that Gods Unchained didn't catch your attention. It's definitely not for everyone. As someone who very much enjoys cards games and more chill play style games - I love it. I've never been a huge gamer by any means, but I have been playing GU since its inception. Gunna have to check out Chifibots!

I may give it another chance. I can tell this is an interesting game. I've been playing some PokĆ©mon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic TCGs this past week. I'm trying to conjure up that desire to get locked in with one of these P2E card games. Iām paying close attention to ChifiBots.
That's how they do man. One minute you're trading soft blows against Frontline cards and next thing you know, your god is getting killed.
Which starter pack did you use? I sticks with the war starter myself.
Ragnarok is coming as well, might be worth a shot.
Pretty sure I was rocking with War as well.
I saw the Ragnarok post. That game is going to be dope, I can tell. Great for HBD as well.
ChifiBots has me hyped too. There's going to be something for me to enjoy sooner or later. Just hard to put down my games that aren't paying me shit to play them, luckily I can still post about my moments on Hive and not feel like I'm being 100% used for the publishers gain only.
I'll check Chifibots when I can. I noticed you've been playing Vanguard but I don't have it, you up for a few games of warzone?
Bruh I hate Warzone. I re-downloaded it recently to try out the new map and I deleted it after just one or two games. The file size is way too big and takes up a giant portion of my ssd. I genuinely just donāt enjoy BR-style games, no matter how much I like COD. Iāve been playing Halo Infinite, Gears 5, and Splitgate as of recent. I had to take a break from Vanguard and 2042. My videos are usually about a week or so behind what Iām actually playing. Iāll have some new gameplay for different games coming after Christmas.
The BR style battles is really frustrating I must say. But there's this resurgence mode that's not so bad.
You respawn as long as your teammates survive for like 20 seconds.
I guess to me that just starts to feel like Battlefield because the maps are so big. Which Iāll just play BF if Iām in the mood to run around like that. Kinda burnt out on both right now though. Was playing so much of the two for the first month they were out.

I really want to play GU. I think I have written this sentence half a dozen times now on HIVE. Gotta squeeze out some extra time somewhere.
And ChiFiBots will be epic ;-)

It is a lot of work to make time for a new game. Especially one that requires you to figure out the rules and get good. Losing is not fun.
ChifiBots is about to be something I sink some real effort and time into, I can already tell.
