No more Bitcoin in Minecraft, Mojang tells Satlantis to stop
In the middle of last year, Mojang made a statement that they were banning NFT integration in their popular game Minecraft. But it looks like their NFT ban is having a wider reach and is affecting not just NFT integration.
What is Satlantis?
If you are somewhat familiar with Bitcoin their name should give a little clue. I am of course referring to the first part the Sat. Which I at least assume comes from Sats, the shortening version of Satoshies. The name given to Bitcoins smallest part. At least that is the theory I am going by.
The idea behind Satlantis is to enable a play2earn version of traditional games, which means games that have not been specifically designed to be play2earn games, aka pyramid schemes for the vast majority. This is was was done with Minecraft. And on Satlan it's Minecraft server you would be able to earn Bitcoin by completing certain in-game quests. These quests have been inspired by the real version of Bitcoin mining. On the game server, the players are able to join in-game mining pools and collect ASICs, which increase the player's hash rate. Increasing their chance to get a reward.
The thing, by the looks of it at least, was simply set up as a fun extra thing or perhaps even an attempt to increase crypto awareness. Only around $300 in total was awarded to the players each week. To me, at least that is not enough money to either lure or trick people into partaking in anything nefarious. But it simply looks like someone who likes both crypto and gaming where trying to bring those two together. So far Minecraft has been the only game that Satlantis have adopted. And I guess the future only knows if there will be more games or not.
If it all sounds a bit familiar it is because it is very similar to how Neoxa is set up, you are able to earn Neoxa by completing tasks in the game. The main difference is you are able to mine Neoxa as well, as it is its own Blockchain. And you can earn Neoxa by playing GTA V and Rust.
Banhammer hits again
But as you probably know Mojang, is the studio behind Minecraft, is not particularly interested in seeing the game be associated with crypto. In the middle of last year, they put out a public statement saying that any NFT integration in the game where to be banned. And about as fast as Neoxas Minecraft server was up it was brought offline. And the same thing happened again here with Satlantis.

I can not really say I was surprised by this. I mean Mojang have made their feeling on this matter pretty clear, so why Satlantis thought they would be the exception I do not know. But it will be interesting to see if they will live on, and if so what games they will bring the play2earn to next.
Have you tried the shortlived Satlantis, or perhaps one of the Neoxia play2earn servers, if so what was your thought of it? I would love to know if you think it was something that changed the game in any way, for better or worse. And also what game would you like to see be playe2earned in this type of way? Please let me know in the comment section below.

It reminds me of Napster and co. First they tried to ban it and then they had to embrace it... a huge change could be coming to gaming and we don't even know it yet!
Might be, but I think it is more likely they will end up being sued, like Napters as well, if they go against Mojang, especially as they have all might Microsoft as their owner.
Maybe it will become more decentralised and suing not possible?!
The only way I see that happening is if it becomes decentralized to the point it becomes autonomous. But I don't think that is a possibility. =(
Yay! 🤗
