Welp, I got rug pulled (Alienships.io)

Potentially inspired by the popular "game" alienworlds.io, alienships.io was a space invaders knock off that used NFTs to upgrade your ships and take part in weekly competitions.

I was made aware of the game on noise.cash (probably my first mistake) and was excited to play a blockchain game that was actually a functioning game rather than a pretty looking shitcoin faucet.

Thinking this could be a success I bought a "space mine" that would mint a random NFT every 48 hours. This set me back $80 worth of Wax from neftyblocks.

It actually went pretty well for a few weeks. It minted me an S:A3. A powerful ship worth around $5. A few more weeks of that luck and the miner would pay for itself!

Except I wouldn't get a few more weeks to use it. The alienships.io site was taken down, and the discord server deleted. WAX has removed all alienships NFTs from the white list and I'm left holding several now worthless NFTs.

So what have I learned from this? Don't trust any one. Whitelisting on NFT marketplaces apparently means nothing and can be removed at any time. So with that said I'm cashing out of the WAX network as it obviously can't be trusted to protect its users.

I have always believed that NFTs are a means for the desperate and greedy to make a quick buck which is why I've never bought into any in the past. Figures the first time I give them a go, I get bitten.

Bummer! BTW, I noticed that all my alienship nft's are gone from my inventory. What does this mean? Did alienships delete everything? Did wax remove it?

You have to untick "Only White-listed NFTs" for them to show now.

Ah, to bad man... Thanks for sharing, it is good(and bad) to know that there still are plenty scams out there so one needs to do better investigations these days.

(Edited)

It is a shame someone can't find a use case of some kind for all these "dead" NFT's. Maybe there should be a game where only blacklisted NFT's are allowed or something, with a form of staking of a real token or coin to allow a prize pool to be generated. It would mostly be just a fun thing rather than a way to recoup all the investment in the dead NFT's, but at least something would come back !

Edit to add - we could call them NFZ's (Non-Fungible Zombies) :D

The community should pull together and bring it back. There is no reason for some greedy sob to pull a stunt just to kill something with potential.
