The Playable Avatars in Splinterlands

Hello Hive gaming community! I’m taking part in the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge. For this week’s edition, I’ll be writing about the newly released Avatars and Exemplars system. It is now available to all Splinterlands players. I invite everyone to check out my post where I write in detail how any player can create and customize their own avatar. I’ll also be sharing my personal thoughts on this major update to the Splinterlands game.

⚔️🛡️ Avatars are a Staple to Gaming 🛡️⚔️

Before playing Web3 and play2earn games, I played many games on console and PC. In every game that I played, an avatar is a must. In games, players take the role of their in game characters. An avatar serves as our unique representation in the game's world to separate us from other players. Avatars have long been a staple since the early days of gaming. In Splinterlands, there were avatars before but they looked simple. Splinterlands upgraded avatars and included many options to personalize each player's design. They now look much better and cooler than the simple avatars before.

⚔️🛡️ Creating Avatars in Splinterlands 🛡️⚔️

Players can choose for a specific bloodline available in the Splinterlands lore. The initial races available are human, elf, orc and dwarf. By the empty slots, we can guess that there will be more races that will be added in the future. Players can also choose between the two genders which are male and female.

When it comes to appearance, there are many options available to players.

The facial features is most important and will truly set the player apart. There are six changeable options when it comes to the facial features. The shape of the face and skin color. The hair, brows, eyes, nose and mouth. I chose a red skinned orc with white hair on a pony tail. He looks cool and angry.

I gave my orc an earring. I guess there is not much jewelries in orc culture so having an earring is cool. My orc is battle hardened so a facial scar is must. I also gave him tattoos to match his hair and tusks. I didn't want to over decorate so I skipped the accessories and left it alone.

For outfits I had a hard time deciding between the white fur that matches my orc's hair. I decided on the black fur in the end that contrasts with my orc's white hair. For borders and frame I decided on yellow that contrasts with my orc's red skin. After finishing my avatar, this is how it looked like.

⚔️🛡️ Exemplars 🛡️⚔️

Avatars are the player's appearance in the game. Exemplars are different. They are cards that are based on the avatars that the players can create. Players can allocate points to stats and abilities to their avatars making it a card that can be used in the game. Players can upgrade the card by spending glint.
The base stats has zero mana, one health and one speed. There are twenty points to allocate to any stats, abilities and mana.

My orc is a melee tanker. I gave it four attack, armor, four health. I saved six points for abilities. It's possible to unlock other attacks to make the exemplar a multi attack unit but it takes a lot of points.

It takes two points to unlock one ability slot. Then three points to unlock a second, four points to unlock a third and so on.

I gave my orc Retaliate which cost two points. I still had two points remaining and I spent them on speed and health. My final Exemplar is a common Fire element, eight mana card. It's stats are four melee attack, one armor, five health, two speed and Retaliate ability.

⚔️🛡️ Conclusion 🛡️⚔️

Avatars and Exemplars gave a new look to player's characters. Not only that, it gave players an option to create an own card. Now, the avatar is not just for cosmetics, it is a real card that players can use in the game. This is interesting an unique in a card game.
