The story of EOS Voice

EOS Voice has gone through something of a metamorphosis, I think, for the much, much better.

Voice began when it made the then world's largest ever purchase for a domain name. It went for $30M for the voice.com URL. See this press release. That domain name of voice.com went from Michael Saylor's company MicroStrategy over to Block.one, an outfit on the EOSIO platform.

Voice started as a blogging site for longer-form content, rather similar to medium.com. See the original site on the Wayback Machine here.

Voice.com seemed to have tremendous potential as a blogging site. One innovative feature was an autction-like incentivizing mechanism. Blog authors could use earned points to effectively bid on another author's post. The highest bidder won the right to have his/her name and brand atop that post in a banner. Posts with large "sales" would be more prominent on the platform. In this way, bloggers were incentivized to promote other blogs with the possibility of "advertising" for themselves.

Yet, Voice.com never caught fire and it suddenly went dark.

Then, out of the blue, it announced that it was changing formats to NFTs.

Although sudden, I think the change was forward-thinking. The blogging Voice.com was going nowhere. Doing a cut-and-run and moving to NFTs was a logical choice.

And here's how it looks today:

I've minted a couple of NFTs on Voice.com. It's easy, as most platforms are these days. (I recall my first mint, on OpenSea, I literally took two pages of notes.)

The War of NFT Platforms is currently ongoing, with OpenSea https://dappradar.com/nft/marketplaces evidently leading in the rankings. My guess is that the earliness of NFTs was one of the reasons Voice.com decided to suddenly give up on blogging and switch to NFTs in kind of a "the time is now!" maneuver. We shall see how the Voice platform plays out.

Interesting, I had no idea they had made this change.

I did terrible on EOS all across the board. Bought late and high and rode it down, I am 99% out of EOS these days.

But it will be interesting if they can find any traction anywhere.

Sorry about the buy high ride down, only good on the super slide at the water park! I haven't paid too much attention to EOS, but it'll be interesting on the Voice NFT version. I think minting is free, somehow. I honestly don't know. Seems nice if true, but might be a draw for spam-minting.

It's been a bit of time now, nearing a year. Still seems like they're getting their footing and checking out the waters. As far as I can tell, they're focusing mostly on what might be called "pure" art, not so much the collectible types of things or game NFTs...no mega-hit yet like a Splinterlands. !LUV

Voice is more of a NFT platform than blogging. I never heard of this website until now !

Gave up on Voice a long time ago, just like I gave up on EOS. Strikes me that Dan Larimer never quite gets it right, whether it's Bitshares, Steemit, EOS, Voice, Clarion or whatever it is he's working on. Maybe he's just a better ideas guy than he is builder.

Not sure how Voice will fare as an NFT venue... not even sure how NFTs will, fare, if we kick the can 10 years down the road.

I'd say Dan Larimer is definitely an ideas guy, for sure. I'd say he's a builder too, but not a stick to it see it through type. Im not going to criticize him though...I've used almost everything he's built. I haven't heard of Clarion though, will have to look it up. !LUV

Wow, I was an early EOS supporter. I had high hopes for Voice when it was announced and over hyped. I wanted it to be what Steemit wasn't at the time. In retrospect, it was doomed to fail because of Block.one...

I lost money on EOS holding on for hope that it would eventually do something. Maybe their NFT platform will be worth something, but I highly doubt it.

It just shocked me to even see EOS mentioned.

Hmm. You're not the first person who's been surprised by this voice-has-turned-NFT post. That doesn't seem to bode well for the platform's outreach. I will say that I think they are growing and that their community and their activity seems to be growing. I just say that based off of looking at the site on occasion and following Discord.

If you ask me, voice.com seems to be somewhat in a split between wanting to be (a) a fine art NFT site with verified "artists" and (b) a place that is very inexpensive/free and easy to mint by anyone and everyone. To me, that is kind of a puzzle and enigma. Both have their benefits and I'm not sure which is best.

My guess going forward...there will be unique spaces for each of these purposes. Right now, I think we're still in the discovery phase of this NFT business.

I used to have an account on voice but I did not know their goal since time is precious so I vanish to better things like Hive.
