Can someone explain the point of this in normal language? Like, are there not airdrops for buying rebellion packs, so they did this wagon stuff? Or is this just more stuff for SL to sell?

They want to Airdrop to people who hold cards & packs.
Not Airdrop to people who buy a qty of packs to just dump them onto the market.
It is to avoid the issue caused with Chaos Edition Airdrops.
Okay, that makes sense, but what's with the mage wagons? That's where they lost me. I just sold all of my Rebellion cards since holding them on their own didn't do shit.
That's the great thing about Digital NFTs.
You can sell them or hold them.
I'm biased as I like all things Splinterlands.
I'm also of the mindset that the game is beautiful & we have no idea how Splinterlands will change over Time.
I'm OK with the uncertainty & I love Splinterlands more Today, than Yesterday.
I hope you pivoted the sales proceeds into something you enjoy!
Vonak!
I just bought SPS with it. haha. Went from like 150k SPS to 330k or something. But then I had to sell a bunch of SPS at basically an all-time low because life handed me some lemons. I have been around since 2018 and will admit I've become a bit jaded about the game lately, but I haven't left. I'm still hanging around to see what happens. I just think they're overdoing it with changes lately, chasing a pink dragon called bot farms, and they're failing to do anything about those bot farms but succeeding in driving people away.
Keep gliding with ancient grace!
For all of the good and bad, at least, we get to experience in our time.
That's better than reading about it in some footnote of History.
