Roles of a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) discord moderator

If you have dabbled into NFTs before, you will have seen “moderators” within their discord server. We commonly see these moderators bearing the brunt of community dissatisfaction with the NFT project. I find that their roles are poorly misunderstood especially when each moderator may bear a different responsibility. So let me try to describe them here based on my observations.

Community manager

They bring the community together through active discord engagements, hosting of games and some even manage the social media account. Some familiar activities include rumble, gartic, hosting of Twitter space, etc. Participants usually get to compete for rewards such as whitelist.

Content moderator

They manage comments and discussions within the discord in alignment with the discord and project rules. They are also given the right to kick, ban or mute members and this authority is especially exercised on troublemakers or rule breakers. So don't mess around thinking you can get away with rude and impolite comments in their discord!

Collaboration moderator

They build partnerships with other teams to bring in benefits and utilities for the project. These could be in the form of whitelists for other NFT projects, or could even be tie ups with web2 companies to deliver real world assets (Eg. T shirts, NFT print-outs, discounts at bare, etc). Now these are the ones with great networking skills and likely a golden tongue!

Helpdesk moderator

They addressed multiple queries which can be surfaced in chat channels or in the ticketing system. Questions can range from mint details, roadmap, how to claim whitelist, utilities enquiries, etc. As they are not the project owners, some queries may be beyond their knowledge and they will have to check with the project team before they can provide a response.

Closing Remarks.png
Different NFT project owners will have set up different job scopes for the moderators they employ. Some may take on all the roles I mentioned, some may just be responsible for one of it, and some may have a totally different role.

Your expectations of them may differ from the tasks they are assigned, hence do think thrice before anyone reprimand them 🙂
