Share Your Battle Weekly Challenge: Mycellic Infantry
Hello Splinterfam! I'm back again for this week's Share your battle challenge featuring Mycelic Infantry. For those of you who are new here reading my blog, I mainly play on Modern Format Silver League only. So, basically I would cover only Silver League Modern format content here. Now to begin with, let's look at the stats of Mycelic Infantry.
Lore
Mycelic Infantry are lumbering behemoth fungus. They are the least intelligent of the Mycelia and are put on the front lines as a strong defense. They are incredibly tough but slow.
Journal from Qui, Merchant from Blue Harbor
Entry 7: Early Afternoon.
“If anyone finds this letter, please, I beg you, flee from this cave and do not linger in the Jade Thicket. Something protects these caverns, the woods outside, perhaps the whole island. My name is Qui. I'm a scribe from Blue Harbor. I took shelter during a rainstorm to protect my latest work Prae Tell, Rumors of Praetoria.”
Entry 8. Mid Afternoon.
“I didn't believe the stories of the Jade Thicket, so I ventured in to add to my book. I swear the trees, mushrooms, and bushes were watching me. It was only after I hunkered in this cave I learned the truth. The plant life is alive. Like alive, alive. It moves. It speaks. It hunts.”
Entry 9. Early Evening.
“Fungus-covered trees blocked the entrance and a few followed me in here, but I hid. They lumbered by, without noticing me. The only thing that remained was strange dust particles. For research purposes, I studied them and placed them in a vial. Silly me for not using gloves but it's perfect for my book! I'm pressing deeper into the cave in hopes of finding another exit.”
Entry 10. Late Evening.
“I've been trekking through these caverns for hours. Or has it been days? Thankfully, I've not seen anymore fungus creatures. They sicken me, but they are fascinating. Being deep beneath the ground for this long has given me a headache. A constant buzzing now resides in my head. To deafen the noise, I've taken to stuffing mushrooms in my ears like a sort of earplug. The strange thing is I can't recall where I found the fungus. There doesn't appear to be any in these caves at all. She told me to do it and I'll listen to her.”
Entry 11. Night.
(Dirt and fungus are smeared across the page)
Entry 12. Night
“I've decided to abandon my book on Praetoria and focus on writing about Her. Her. Her. Her. Her. Her. My Queen. Our Queen. We are called to the Realm of Silence. We see through Qui eyes. Qui is us, and She is pleased.”
Mycelic Infantry
Edition - Chaos Legion
Rarity - Rare
Element - Earth
Attack - Melee
Abilities - Shield (Obtains Giant killer on level 5 and Enrage on Level 8)
Stats
If your look at the stats for max Silver Level which is level 4
- Attack Damage 4
- Speed 1
- Armor 3
- Health 9
It is a good card for its mana cost which is 8. It has high attack average health and decent armor but it is very slow with only 1 speed on max silver level so this monsters accuracy doesn't do well with high speed monsters. It is a very good tank in a specific ruleset so it has its uses especially with Reverse Speed rule.
Synergies
For the rule set, Mycelic Infantry is more effective in:
Lost Magic - Monsters with Magic attack may not be used in battles. (Since there is no magic attacks, You can utilize its ability Shield which lessen the damage Mycelic receives by half making it very tanky)
Reverse Speed - Monsters with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks. (High chance of evading melee and ranged attack monsters)
Up Close & Personal - Only Monsters with Melee attack may be used in battles. (Since all you can use is melee monsters only, Mycelic can become very tanky and sometimes unkillable with the right combination)
Earthquake - Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round. (Shield monsters are very useful in dealing with earthquake rule because it only take 1 damage every end of the round)
Battle
Now let's jump into battle wherein I used Mycelic Infantry. I like to use Mycelic if the Lost Magic is active on the battle so that I could utilize the Shield ability well.
The Rules were:
- Earthquake (Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round)
- Lost Magic (Monsters with Magic attack may not be used in battles)
38 mana cap with Earth and Death only available to use. When I first saw the Rule my first thought was Death because of a certain Chaos Legion monster with Flying ability (Riftwing) to survive the earthquake. But I don't think I have any monster to support it so I decided to go with Earth becuase of Mycelic Infantry the extra 1 Health Fernheart would provide to all my monsters. I used the burst strategy in dealing with the earthquake rule at the same time taking advantage of the no magic battle.
The Line up was:
- Fernheart (Increase the health of all my monster to make them more tanky and also for my ranged monster to attack when in front)
- Mycelic Infantry (To tank incoming melee and ranged damage)
- Bramble Pixie (With reach ability and high damage, to burst opponents monster together with Mycelic Infantry)
- Xenith Archer (Filler card only and also for Meat shield purpose)
- Venari Scout (To eliminate first the monster with the lowest Health)
- Goblin Tower (Slightly tanky with its armor making him have a few hits.
- Gargoya Devil - (Serves as damager with flying ability and deathblow)
The strategy of this line up is to eliminate opponent's as fast as possible. The Strategy which I came up with worked. My opponent wanted to survive the earthquake by randomly placing flying melee monsters which does not attack by the way. If you want to see the Battle Kindly click this link here!
Conclusion
Mycelic Infantry is a decent card with a good stat and almost always usable in many situations except when you expect your opponent to use magic attackers because one of Mycelic's weakness is magic attacks. It can also become a backline tank on a certain ruleset such as Super Sneak. Mycelic Infantry is good when combined with the right card and right rulesets. I only recommend that you use him on low to medium mana caps because there are many better higher mana cards to use.
