Share Your Battle Weekly Challenge: Gem Meteor
Hello Splinterfam! I'm back again for this week's Share your battle challenge featuring Gem Meteor. For those of you who are new here reading my blog, I mainly play on Modern Format Silver League only. Before I begin, I would like to commend the team for the design of Gem Meteor, It looks really cool. Now to begin with, let's look at the stats of Gem Meteor.
Gem Meteor
- Edition: Chaos Legion
- Rarity: Epic
- Element: Neutral
- Attack: Ranged
- Abilities: Scattershot (obtains Piercing on level 5 and 6)
Stats
If you look at the stats at silver level the max is level 3, with 2 damage 5 speed and 5 health and also 5 mana cost so I'd say that it is a decent card with its niche uses. I don't usually use this card because there are many 5 mana cost card that is way better than this card. For this weekly challenge I decided to give it a try, thinking what lineup it could easily fit in. I thought a few composition where Gem Meteor could be of use.
Synergies
For the rule set, Gem Meteor can be used on:
Back to Basics - Monsters lose abilities (Cancels Scattershot ability)
Close Range - Range units can attack from position 1 (Can Attack on front row)
Explosive Weaponry - All monsters get the Blast Ability which does additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster. Additional damage is equivalent to main damage/2 rounded up. (Gives a chance to hit 3 monsters with blast via Scattershot)
For Summoners, since Gem Meteor is a Neutral monster it almost fit in every team composition.
Yodin (To give all monster blast ability and increase ranged damage by 1)
General Sloan (Increase ranged damage by 1)
Fernheart (To give all monster close range ability)
Battle
Let's jump into a sample battle wherein I immediately thought of using Gem Meteor the moment I saw the Rules and available Splinter to use.
The Rules were:
- Back to Basics (Monsters lose their own abilities.)
- Odd ones out (Only odd mana cards can be used.)
18 mana cap with Fire, Water, Earth and Life Splinters available to use. I saw the opponent use Obsidian to much so I decided to use Fernheart for the extra 1 health for the Earth magic attacking monsters are very squishy.
The Line up was:
- Fernheart (Gives Close Range ability)
- Hill Giant (Tank, with many health and low mana cost)
- Chaos Agent (To act as second tank, Meat shield only)
- Gem Meteor (Damage, somewhat bulky and high survivability due to high health and speed)
- Venari Seedsmith (For high damage)

Conclusion
Gem Meteor is very hard to use because of its Scattershot ability which would divide the damage you deal. Scattershot is only good in my opinion for a certain scenario whereas your opponent uses Taunt monster and support it with heal, speed up, repair, etc. But if you feel lucky you could run 2 Scattershot monsters with the hope of killing the low health monster 1st in the backline during the 1st round. Gem Meteor has its niche uses with the right rules and the right mana cap it can be very effective.
