Bought A Steam Deck

Bought a Steam Deck for a family member, but they admitted to me that they didn't really play games much, so I guess I got a Steam Deck for myself lol. Of course, the first thing I do is watch a Ghibli movie on it instead of actually playing a game.

I'm thoroughly having fun with it. The most fun I've had with any Linux distro in a while. I was likely going to get one for myself eventually, so it's not a loss of money or anything. It's quite fun. Also, it seemingly just "works" with a lot of stuff, without a ton of extra effort. You can easily set up config and special controls/interactions/macros for each game or app, and it's generally just really convenient.

For the Steam Deck specifically, compared to the other Intel handhelds, it performs better in games at the lower wattages. I can do gaming on top games like Hogwarts Legacy and get a flat 30fps in most areas at 10W. The Intel handhelds, as far as I can tell, can’t. AMD is good at being usable at low power, but to get real performance, you’re going to be pumping 45W into that chip. Granted, Intel is like that too. I do expect a lot more games to get a focus on being Linux compatible as the Steam Deck and similar devices gain popularity (many have already added Linux support since the Deck came out).
