CGRF Sponsorship Proposal - The Walking Dead Empires

CGRF Sponsorship Proposal - The Walking Dead Empires

The purpose of this proposal is to determine if the SPS DAO would like to officially sponsor Web3 gamers that were negatively impacted by the shutdown of The Walking Dead: Empires via the Crypto Gaming Recovery Fund. If this proposal passes, eligible players will be able to visit a claim page made available by the Splinterlands team to verify ownership of an impacted wallet for a period of 90 days from the launch of the Sponsorship program.

The SPS DAO will allocate the following shares of the Crypto Gaming Recovery Fund as follows:

  • Up to 250,000 shares will be allocated to applicants for this project.
  • No wallet will receive more than 250 shares.
  • Distribution will be done on a best efforts basis based on TWD:E NFT holdings as per the final snapshot of the project on April 29th, 2025 or the best date available.
  • Individual share allocations will be determined by the average number and rarity of NFTs held by all eligible applicant's wallets that apply for Crypto Gaming Recovery Fund sponsorship.

Sponsorship shares are based on an assessment of the projects overall size and valuation at the time of closure by the CGRF Committee.
All CGRF Sponsorship Proposals are run for 7 days and if passed the approval is final.

As our end goal is to attract new players I would suggest we simplify this process by offering each verified player of The Walking Dead Empires a free Spellbook to give them access to the entire ecosystem of Splinterlands. Also, may be a good thing to set up a specific Walking Dead Empires channel in Discord to welcome these folks, answer any specific questions they may have and get them started playing Splinterlands. Lastly, if possible, we should reach out to Walking Dead Empires content creators and see if they would have any interest in helping us with the transition to Splinterlands and provide them with a bag of goodies (packs, cards, SPS, DEC) to distribute to their viewers.

The Walking Dead is a globally recognized IP. Having help them with Splinterlands brand attached is a very good look from marketing and PR perspective. This is one of the best ways to onboard new blood that is already savvy with blockchain technology.

Good work Clay, You're clearly putting a lot of thought an effort into this. These are exactly the kind of people who will want to play and continue to play another web 3 game. Wishing you a pickle filled day

The thing I'm not sure about, about either of these proposals is how interested these people would be in playing Splinterlands. It's not just about web 3 interest but also the type of game surely. Isn't it usual for gamers to prefer certain types of games. Are either of the games we're proposing to support card games? Or are they something completely different? I don't have a lot of personal experience in gaming so am basing this on the observation of family members and their friends. They all seem to be pretty niche in what types of games they play and despite my trying to recrit them intio Splinterlands over the years none of them are interested. Not because of Slinterlands per se but simply because they're not interested in card type games.

It's a fair point. Honestly we won't know until we try. The thing to keep in mind though is that if we manage to bring in a couple thousand new players we're doubling the Splinterlands player base and making both us and those new players stronger with a sustainable project to grow with. At this point we have to start growing or we just keep dwindling away over time. We designed this project very carefully to ensure it isn't just a "free money" situation and should reward people that integrate with our community and grow with us.

"we won't know until we try." This was going through my mind as I was writing my comment. I'm still a bit disgruntled(?) with how badly marketing was handled in the past with the scattershot approach and no follow up analysis. 😁 That is no longer the case with you and Dave keeping an eye on things so I'll be interested to see how these work out if you get the go ahead. Thanks for all you do!

@clayboyn
What about Worldopo? I invested about $1K into that and played it for about 3 years.

It was a Tron themed real world real estate land harvesting and battling game mixed with an AR collection scheme where you could walk around your owned land and harvest spill over resources from your factories that you owned.

It was cool as F*** and it went out of business because of covid and because of the Ukraine/Russia conflict plus the pandemic.

The main purpose of this whole project is to bring in players from outside of the ecosystem. I don't really know anything about this one, but I can ask the committee to investigate it and see if it's large enough to consider pursuing. Also worth keeping in that mind that the best results are probably going to come from acting swiftly, like with Tokyo Beast as that one just happened. Big picture I'm hoping we can react swiftly when projects fold and start giving their players a new place to land.
