The relationship between parents and children is the most significant in the world. Parents always want their children to succeed in every aspect of life. However, their principles and behavior can sometimes lead to their children's failure.In most cases, young people who struggle with low self-esteem, depression, and criminal behavior have parents who are ultimately responsible. Similarly, parents also play a significant role in shaping their children's success.
If you examine the background of a notorious thief, you'll likely discover that their parents failed to address minor offenses during childhood. A child is born innocent, and their upbringing depends on their parents' guidance.
My Story: A Balance of Discipline and Freedom
As a youngster, I believe I can provide insight into how parents can strike a balance in raising their children. I grew up in a respectable and honest family, with three parental figures: my father, mother, and grandfather. Each of them played a significant role in shaping me into the person I am today.My grandfather was a simple man, aware of the societal ills, and slightly strict. In our community, most parents would physically punish their children for mistakes, leading to rebellion. However, my grandfather never laid a hand on us. Instead, he would scold us, and if he felt he had been too harsh, he would apologize, making us feel ashamed and calming our anger.He was cautious about our friendships, ensuring we didn't fall into bad company. He wouldn't let us stay out late, advising us to meet friends during the day. In our area, decent people rarely ventured out at night.
My grandfather maintained a balance in our lives, allowing us to socialize during the day and spend evenings with family. Many people neglect their families, spending free time with friends instead. My grandfather's only shortcoming was being overly protective, which, in my opinion, is necessary for a part of childhood, but should change with time.
Children should be given independence when parents trust them not to stray from the right path. Trusting children builds confidence and makes them self-assured. Our family background is in business, and we were never shielded from financial matters.
Role of Mothers and Fathers
In my opinion, both mothers and fathers play an equal role in raising their children. However, it's essential for one parent to be stricter and the other to be more lenient. This balance helps to prevent children from developing resentment towards their parents.
If parents don't work together and present a united front, children can take advantage of the weakness. For example, if a father forbids something, but the mother allows it, the child will likely exploit the inconsistency.
Three Stages of Parenting
Parents should deal with their children according to their age. There's a saying that a child's life should be divided into three stages. In the first stage, treat them like royalty; in the second, like a servant; and in the third, like a friend. This is the best approach to raising a child.
