Oldies but Goodies: The True Power of a Exceptional Promo Card - Community Engagement Challenge: Battlefield Breakthroughs!

Hey, Splinterfam and Hivers! Welcome to my contribution to this week's community engagement challenge. When it comes to progress, learning, and developing perspectives in Splinterlands, the best learning experience is in Clan Battles or Brawls, which is why I've dedicated many previous posts to tutorials and guides on how to join clans and participate in these events. In my most recent Clan Battle, I had to dust off a promotional card that was once extremely expensive to me, and rediscovering it in these tournaments has made me appreciate it again: the legendary Dr. Blight.

Les doy la bienvenida a mi aporte al community engagemente challenge de esta semana, cuando se trata de avances, aprendizajes y maduración de perspectivas en Splinterlands, la mejor escuela de aprendizaje la vas a conseguir en las batallas de clanes o Brawls, y es la razón por la que en muchas publicaciones anteriores he dedicado tutoriales y guías de como incorporarse a clanes para participar en estos eventos. Justamente en mi más reciente batalla de clanes, tuve que desempolvar una carta promocional que en su momento fue extremadamente cara para mi y redescubrirla nuevamente en estos torneos me ha hecho apreciarla nuevamente y es el legendario Dr. Blight.
Many promotional cards have been released, but none have left such a deep mark as Dr. Blight. I acquired it with enormous effort when each copy was over $100, so you can imagine what it took me to get this card to level 3 in the middle of a bull market. The whole asset devaluation process was so disappointing that it led me to despise most of the post-RiftWatchers promo cards, but I never got rid of my Dr. Blight, he gave me some big tournament wins, and I just happened to have to face him against two promo cards, the newest ones from the Conclave core set. Below I'll show you how I dealt with them using the legendary Dr. Blight.
Muchas han sido las cartas promocionales que han salido, pero ninguna ha dejado una huella tan profunda como Dr. Blight, la adquirí con un enorme esfuerzo cuando cada copia estaba por encima de los 100$, así que se imaginarán lo que me costó llevar esta carta al nivel 3 en pleno mercado alcista. Todo el proceso de devaluación de los activos fue algo tan decepcionante que me llevó a despreciar la mayoría de las cartas promo posterior a RiftWatchers, pero nunca me deshice de mi Dr. Blight, me concedió grandes victorias en torneos y justo me toco una situación en la que tuve que enfrentarlo contra 2 cartas promocionales, las más nuevas de la edición Conclave core y a continuación te mostraré como hice para lidiar con ellas usando al legendario Dr. Blight.
Battle rules!/Reglas de batalla!
This guild skirmish takes us to a battle that only allows us to use fire, water, and death splinters. The mana limit is 32, a bit tight for these difficult battles. To make matters even more complicated, we can only use four units in this battle. But let's take a closer look at the rulesets because they'll drastically change how we approach this battle.
Esta escaramuza de gremios nos lleva a una batalla que solo nos deja utilizar los splinters de fuego, agua y muerte, el límite de mana es de 32, un tanto ajustada para estas difíciles batallas y para complicarlo aún más, solo podemos utilizar 4 unidades en esta batalla, pero veamos con más cuidado las ruleset porque van a modificar drásticamente la forma en la que enfocaremos esta batalla.
Armored Up
Armored Up is a ruleset that adds +2 defense to all units on the battlefield. This complicates things for melee/ranged units, so magic units are a priority for our eventual lineup.
Armored Up, es una ruleset que añade +2 de defensa a todas las unidades en el campo de batalla, esto complica las cosas para las unidades melé/rango, por lo que las unidades mágicas son una prioridad para nuestra eventual alineación.
Shades of Gray
Then we have the rule set that drastically changes the dynamics of this battle: Shades of Gray. This ruleset implies that we can only use the neutral units that we have in our deck, particularly I have a good amount of neutral cards but if we can only place 4 monsters on the battlefield the strategy must be well thought out, as well as the type of archon that we are going to use and that will be the only piece that can differentiate our strategy from that of the opponent.
Luego tenemos la rule set que cambia la dinámica de esta batalla drásticamente: Shades of Gray. Esta ruleset implica que solo podremos usar las unidades neutras que tengamos en nuestro mazo, particularmente tengo una buena cantidad de cartas neutras pero si solo podemos ubicar 4 monstruos en el campo de batalla la estrategia debe pensarse bien, al igual que el tipo de arconte que vamos a usar y que será la única pieza que puede diferenciar nuestra estrategia de la del oponente.
My Strategy/Mi estrategia
Okay, so now we've seen the difficulties and modifications this battle entails, let's outline a first strategy for our lineup. It's very likely our opponent will use units with high magic/range and even melee damage. We'll use a strategy with solid tanks and powerful range/melee and magic units in the secondary row. Let's start by outlining the type of archon we'll use.
Bien, ya vimos las dificultades y modificaciones que tiene esta batalla, vamos a delinear una primera estrategia en nuestra alineación. Es muy probable que nuestro oponente use unidades con gran daño mágico/rango e incluso melé, usaremos una estrategia con tanques sólidos y poderosas unidades rango/melé y mágico en la fila secundaria. Comencemos por delinear el tipo de arconte que usaremos.
🎴Cards/Cartas
🧙♂️Archon/Arconte: Kelya Frendul
As I mentioned before, while we can only use neutral units, the archon will be the element that fundamentally makes the difference in battle thanks to its modifiers. I also said that our opponent can probably use units with high damage; we'll do the same, but speed is crucial. Kelya Frendul will be the archon that can help us the most, she adds 1 extra point of defense and 1 to speed. With this we can shield our units and, most importantly, make them the first to attack. Now we just need to define which neutral monsters we are going to use.
Como mencioné anteriormente, si bien sólo podemos usar unidades neutras, el arconte será el elemento que fundamentalmente haga la diferencia al momento de la batalla gracias a sus modificadores. También dije que nuestro oponente puede probablemente usar unidades con gran daño, nosotros haremos lo mismo pero entonces es crucial la velocidad. Kelya Frendul será el arconte que más nos puede ayudar, suma 1 punto extra de defensa y 1 a la velocidad con esto podemos blindar nuestras unidades y lo más importante que sean las primeras en atacar, ahora solo debemos definir bien cuales eran los monstruos neutras que vamos a utilizar.
👾 Monsters/Monstruos: Ulundin Overseer
Flank
Ulundin is literally a reinforced concrete wall. Despite its high mana cost, it will be very useful for containing early attacks. At only level 1, this card is quite effective due to its high HP and Defense. The added advantage of this tank is its flank ability, which allows any melee unit in the second position to reach and thus be able to attack.
Ulundin es literalmente un muro de concreto reforzado, a pesar de su alto costo de mana nos será de gran utilidad para contener los primeros ataques, con solo el nivel 1 esta carta es bastante efectiva por su gran cantidad de vida y defensa. La ventaja extra de este tanque es contar con la habilidad flank que le permite a cualquier unidad melé ubicada en la segunda posición la habilidad reach y así poder atacar.
👾 Tatiana Blayde
Close Range & Dodge
With a solid tank located at the vanguard that allows a melee unit to attack from the second row, the best prospect for this position is Tatiana Blayde, she is a neutral gladiator card with combined melee/range attack even if the tank were to fall, this unit has the close range ability that allows it to execute range attacks from the first position and as a second important element is its dodge ability increasing its evasion rate significantly.
Con un sólido tanque ubicado en la vanguardia que permite a una unidad melé poder atacar desde la segunda fila, el mejor prospecto para esta posición es Tatiana Blayde, es una carta gladiadora neutra con ataque combinado melé/rango incluso si el tanque llegara a caer, esta unidad tiene la habilidad close range que le permite ejecutar ataques rango desde la primera posición y como segundo elemento importante esta su habilidad dodge incrementando su tasa de evasión significativamente.
👾 Magi of Chaos
The use of magic units is crucial to avoid having to deal with enemy defenses and evasion rates on enemy units. Therefore, it's always necessary to use magic units in these battles, and Magi of Chaos will be our key player. Having her at level 3 is enough to make her truly effective in Gold League battles, and although she gains the oppressor ability at level 5, it's not as crucial.
El uso de unidades mágicas es crucial para no tener que lidiar con las defensas enemigas y las probabilidades de evasión en las unidades enemigas, por lo que siempre es necesario el uso de unidades mágicas en estas batallas y Magi of Chaos será nuestra pieza clave. Basta con tenerla en nivel 3 para que sea realmente efectiva en batallas de la liga de oro y aunque gana la habilidad opresor en nivel 5 no es algo tan crucial.
👾 Doctor Blight
Affliction, Camouflage, Poison & Scavenger
Finally, we round out our lineup with our main card, Doctor Blight, the plague bearer in Chaos Legion. The first thing that stands out in this unit is its camouflage ability that makes it invisible to units as long as we keep it in the secondary row, then we have a series of abilities worthy of a master in the arts of poison, it has the affliction ability that prevents healing of any type on its target, then we have the ability to poison its target with each attack and finally the scavenger ability which is incredibly useful in very tight battles as it increases its maximum life with each death on the battlefield, this is the reason why I decided to place it in the last position, in case my first 3 units are eliminated Dr. Blight can have enough life for a decisive last assault.
Finalmente cerramos nuestra alineación con nuestra carta protagonista, Doctor Blight el portador de la peste en Chaos Legion. Lo primero que destaca en esta unidad es su habilidad camuflaje que la hace invisible a las unidades siempre y cuando lo mantengamos en la fila secundaria, luego tenemos una serie de habilidades dignas de un maestro en las artes del veneno, tiene la habilidad aflicción que impide la sanación de cualquier tipo en su objetivo, luego tenemos la habilidad de poder envenenar a su objetivo con cada ataque y finalmente la habilidad carroñero que es increíblemente útil en batallas muy ajustadas ya que va aumentando su vida máxima con cada muerte en el campo de batalla, es la razón por la que decidí ubicarlo en la última posición, en caso de que sean eliminados mis 3 primeras unidades Dr. Blight puede tener suficiente vida para un último asalto decisivo.
⚔️Strategy and battle lineup/Estrategia y alineación de batalla
Once the battle is sent, we realize the terrible reality: the opponent is using the latest promotional cards from the Conclave Edition! 2 Promo vs. Dr. Blight, the promo card that generated the most hype during the Chaos Legion stage in the midst of the NFT bull market. Ah! To remember is to live, right? But those days are over, now that all the hype has died down, let's see if this promo card lives up to its former reputation!
Una vez enviada la batalla nos damos cuenta de la terrible realidad, el oponente esta usando las más recientes cartas promocionales de la edición Conclave! 2 Promo vs Dr. Blight la carta promo que más hype generó durante la etapa de Chaos Legion en pleno mercado alcista de los NFT ah! Recordar es vivir no? Pero esos tiempos ya pasaron veamos ahora que todo ese hype se desvaneció, si esta carta promocional esta a la altura de su antigua reputación!

💥Round 1-3💥
We started the first round with our opponent using Anyu Huntswoman as a tank to give Gramel the Hunger the chance to attack from second position and execute his three types of attacks. However, our tank effectively held off this first round while Dr. Blight silently applied his poison to the enemy tank, eliminating him at the start of the second round. We then faced Gramel the Hunger, and our tank could no longer withstand the onslaught, but it gave us time for Dr. Blight to inject him with poison again, weakening him in the third round, and for Tatiana Blayde to execute him ruthlessly.
Comenzamos el primer round y nuestro oponente utilizando a Anyu Huntswoman como tanque para darle la posibilidad de Gramel the Hunger atacar desde la segunda posición y así ejecutar sus 3 tipos de ataques, sin embargo nuestro tanque aguantó efectivamente este primer round mientras que Dr, Blight aplica silenciosamente su veneno al tanque enemigo por lo que al comenzar el segundo round es eliminado. Nos toca enfrentar a Gramel the Hunger y nuestro tanque ya no pudo aguantar la embestida, pero nos dio el tiempo para que nuevamente Dr. Blight le inoculara el veneno para debilitarlo en el 3er round y que Tatiana Blayde lo ejecutase sin miramientos.
💥Rounds 4-6💥
By the 4th round our opponent was down to 2 units, with Arcane Skinwalker being the tank at the vanguard and it’s no lie, he has a huge amount of defense and life that allowed him to withstand the combined attack of Tatiana and Magi of Chaos, but it wasn’t enough to withstand the poisonous punishment of Dr. Die and poisoned, he literally went into the abyss owing us life points, a humiliation from the ultimate Promo card! Only the beer dwarf was left who managed to hold out long enough to eliminate our sacred Tatiana Blayde, but this only instilled greater fury in Dr. Blight who with great anger and revenge gave him the final blow + poison so he left empty in perpetual agony. Victory!
Para el 4to round nuestro oponente quedá con 2 unidades, siendo Arcane Skinwalker el tanque en la vanguardia y no es mentira, tiene una enorme cantidad de defensa y vida que le permitió soportar el ataque combinado de Tatiana y Magi of Chaos, pero no fue suficiente para soportar el castigo ponzoñoso del Dr. Muere y envenenado, literalmente se fue al abismo debiéndonos puntos de vida, una humillación por parte del la carta Promo definitiva! Solo quedó el enano cervecero que logró soportar lo suficiente para eliminar a nuestra sagrada Tatiana Blayde, pero esto solo insufló mayor furia al Dr. Blight que con gran ira y venganza le dio el golpe de gracia + veneno para que se fuera vacío en agonía perpetua. Victoria!
🔥 Conclusions/Conclusiones
- The first thing to highlight is the versatility that these summoners, which boost defense and speed, still possess. Another alternative, despite what Chaos Legion haters may not want to admit, is Lux Vega. Also, Cryptic from the Rebellion set applies afflictions like speed reduction and blinding to the enemy team. Finally, Dr. Blight is the best example of a well-balanced promotional card; when you create something like this, they tend to become assets that transcend leagues and formats.
- Lo primero es destacar la versatilidad que siguen teniendo estos invocadores que bonifican la defensa y la velocidad, otra alternativa es por más que los haters de Chaos Legion no lo quieran reconocer, es Lux Vega. También Cryptic de la edición Rebellion que aplica aflicciones como restar velocidad y cegar al equipo enemigo. Finalmente destacar como Dr. Blight es el mejor ejemplo de una carta promocional bien balanceada, cuando creas algo así tienden a convertirse en activos que trascienden las ligas y los formatos.
Well, friends, if I've learned anything from this wonderful promo card, it's that I can always expect new mechanics with this promo card. To be honest, I thought I'd lose that battle with the new, golden promo cards! But Dr. Blight always finds a way, which is why, for all intents and purposes, it's my favorite card from the Chaos Legion edition. Cheers!
Bien amigos, si algo he aprendido con esta maravillosa carta promocional es que siempre puedo esperar nuevas mecánicas con esta carta promocional, siendo honesto pensé que perdería esa batalla con las nuevas cartas promo y además doradas!
