New to Splinterlands? Here’s EXACTLY How to Get DEC and SPS Into the Game!

Welcome back Splinterheads! In this episode, I cover a common question posed by new Splinterlands players. This usually comes up after the player has started playing and understanding the basics of the game, and deciding that they like the game and want to progress, they ask "How do I buy SPS and DEC and get it into game?"

I break down the process and cover it in a step-by-step method starting with installing MetaMask and creating an account on Coinbase, all the way through to transferring DEC or SPS into the game.

I felt that this was an important subject to cover, as it directly impacts new players and is an especially tough subject to broach and go over with players who are not used to dealing with cryptocurrency.

The need and usage of the SPS and DEC tokens become more apparent the more new players interact with the game, with SPS needed for staking and DEC needed for many other purposes within the game related to acquiring resources such as cards, land and a long list of other things at this point.

The process is also directly related (in reverse) to how to remove profits from the game according to your personal play style and plan.

EDIT: After a few replies, I felt the need to insert this piece of information that I had not really run into, as I usually transfer and swap small amounts of money. With that said, it has been brought to my attention that you should NOT go directly from Swap.ETH to SPS or DEC due to liquidity. The proper process would be to swap to Swap.HIVE and then go to SPS or DEC. Thanks for those that brought this up.

Well done with the video. As I mentioned to you at discord, you should post more on hive. In fact all your SL YouTube videos should be posted at hive just like this one. Many thanks for doing this.

Thanks for the assistance. I cover Splinterlands on a weekly basis on YouTube, I just haven't posted much on Hive Blog. I will start posting more here.

Great video bronze,

My preferred method is to use ltc to transfer into hive-engine.

But there are many other ways indeed.

Very good Disclaimer, first small amount get familiar first 👍

I have done LTC myself but then switched to ETH more because ETH deposits are free to Tribaldex and LTC deposits are not.

Wow i have read the message again, have not done that in long time....
I had always miss interrupted the message though they also had the 0.75% fee.
They should add a linefeed after the period 🤣

Will do my calculations again next time to see what is better in my case (with smaller amounts) always thoughted the gas fee of eth is/was the bottleneck (costing more then the 0.75%.

Lately the ETH gas fees are reasonable, but yes they vary a lot and sometimes get outrageous. When it does I simply wait and don’t do anything and they typically come down.

Thanks. I chose ETH due to Azircon's reasoning on this. We discussed this a bit as I was putting information together for this video. I think, at any point during the process I can save a fee, is a good thing. But it's always good to re-evaluate your process over time.

Great video. I'm hoping the new BASE LP will make this a lot easier for folks to get funds into and out of the game. The DAO is working on getting LP's up on different DEX's and Bridges too, which will make this process a lot easier.

I am also looking forward to getting on BASE. It's my opinion that making this process easier for new users is imperative to being able to improve the onboarding rate.

Great video, very thorough! Thank you for sharing it here as well, I'll check out your channel. Those tutorials are always helpful. I struggled a lot with just that part, and it was even more complicated for me as I live in Ecuador, so Crypto isn't that much of a thing. But I figured it out eventually, thanks to tutorials :-D

Thanks for watching. Yes, every country is going to have slightly different challenges with crypto depending on laws and regulations.

Here the problem was more which platfrom to use, and how. In the end, it worked out with binance. A little complicated, but still better than sending money back to Germany and then using PayPal :-D

Good video, hoping to have the BASE bridge and pool set up next week so then things will be several steps quicker and easier from coinbase.
It will work like this:

  • Buy USDC on coinbase
  • Withdraw to BASE
  • Swap to SPS on Aerodrome (kind of like pancakeswap or uniswap but on BASE)
  • Bridge directly in game

I am looking forward to this and will do a new episode for this process when it is up and running.

Great to see the ecosystem from the perspective of a newer player.
Campaign and Frontier are a huge help for gameplay, but the crypto side of it can be overwhelming. Thanks for doing this, mate.

As I don't play at the top of the game, I have focused my channel on trying to update and provide handy tips for those new to the game. Thanks.
