In this post I look at some of the already-iconic duos and trios of the new Modern era in @splinterlands. Let's dive right in!

Graybrow and his Giraffe

Graybrow has a LOT of friends in the new Modern. Lorkus, Inept Healer, Drath, Sentinel... But his absolute best friend might be his trusted Vicious Giraffe.

With the Giraffe by his side, Graybrow not only gets a shield buff that makes him even harder to kill, but he also gets the benefit of having the unit up front lose their armor to the Giraffe's shatter (as it hits before Graybrow). What a cool pet.

EMP & Leolin Sifu

Oh man, this may be the deadliest duo in Modern right now. When EMP gives Sifu his Piercing & Armored Strike combo, enemies beware. Hippos in particular cower under the cat's relentless strikes.

Razi, Lucky, and Diviner

Razi's got lots of gnomes to call on, but her favorite is likely the Lukcy Longshot, who can weapon train several other gnomes including the Daigendark Surveyor and Nimbledook Scout.

And the cherry on top of it all is the electrifying Water Diviner, who casually zaps the whole gang to trigger some furious gnomish power.

Heloise and her Treant

Yes, Heloise's bestie is likely still the squirrel. But besides that, her true loves are a Treant and a rusty platypus (not pictured...). The Sentinel offers one of only two resurrects in Modern, and giving Heloise one more swipe at the enemy is just the kind of thing that makes this warrior's heart melt.

Tofu & the Silverleaf Mage

Tofu, the terror of Rebellion, hasn't been given too many new friends in the new Modern. Perhaps his claws were a little too sharp. However, the Silverleaf mage makes this cat purr. With Divine Shield, Taunt, and Poison Burst, she's a deadly backline tank that he's happy to heal up with Triage on another unit (the Sentinel's a good play, giving the Silverleaf Mage an extra go at taunting and poisoning the enemy).

Slade & Jicarilla

Slade's first love was the Rune Arcanist, who gave him his first taste at dodging magic. And then came Jicarilla, the beautiful wizardess who not only lets him evade fireballs but also heals him...twice.

Anasth Soothsayer often third-wheels this duo to cleanse Slade. The Soothsayer can also be a terrific unit to put in front of Jicarilla under certain circumstances, particularly in magic-only matches.

Goff & the Hippos

Could anyone have predicted that Goff would become a best friend to a bunch of hippos? Well, that's what's happened, and it's because of the Moribund Arrowbait. It already self-revives once, but with Goff around it gets a third go at giving tribute to its fellow hippos, and that means a whole lot of angry angry hippos. I mean, Ulund. Whatever.
