Battle Mage Secrets Challenge - Super Sneak
Hello fellow Splinterlanders, it is time for the Battle Mage Secrets Challenge!
The Battle Mage Secrets Challenge is a wonderful and effective way to get to know rulesets better and improve your gameplay. Not only do you study and analyse rulesets and example battles closely, you also get to read and see what other Splinterheads are thinking and doing with their little darlings on the battlefield.
With many battles now being comprised of 3 rulesets, it is important to know your rulesets well, how they relate to other rulesets and what corresponding cards work well to either exploit the ruleset or defend against it. We have also seen a number of new rulesets coming into the game lately and a bunch of new monsters have received new abilities.
The game is becoming more and more technical, leaving you with ever decreasing chances of winning battles with sheer brute force and overkill strategies. All these reasons and the clear challenge that players (and bots unfortunately) are getting „smarter“ all the time underscore the need to know rulesets very well. The Battle Mage Secrets Challenge helps and motivates us players further to do just that.
In today's challenge we are looking at the Super Sneak ruleset.
Super Sneak
All melee units gain the Sneak ability.
I absolutely love Super Sneak. It is one of my very favorite rulesets and one for which I have several different strategies depending on the circumstances. The mana cap and the available splinters play a role, but most of all, other accompanying rulesets determine the composition of the team and the idea behind it.
Super Sneak allows all melee monsters to attack the enemy backline from any position, except from the first position. The most obvious strategy is to load your team with heavy hitting melee monsters, preferably with some speed.
A good defensive strategy is to place anti-melee monsters with Thorns or Shield in the backline and use anti-melee Summoners, like Mylor Crowling or Zintar Mortalis.
On the other hand, melee orientated strategies with either melee buffs or debuffs are rather predictable and can therefore be a trap. I have been caught out by Mylor numerous times or by enemy teams with heavy debuffs and a Shield monster at the back to make my melee offensive harmless.
A third strategy, apart from melee offensive or defensive lineups, is to place a defensive monster in the backline and load all other bases with monsters attacking the frontline to surprise your opponent and catch him off guard. Whichever strategy you use depends, as said above, on the circumstances of your battle. For example, Super Sneak does not work too well with low mana bouts and some splinters are not so well equipped with good and effective melee monsters. The various strategic possibilities you can apply and the need to consider other rulesets are reasons why I like this ruleset so much. What are your strategies?
The battle stats are the following:
RULESETS: Lost Legendaries, Super Sneak and Back To Basics
MANA: 17
SPLINTERS: blue and white decks not available
The battle I have chosen to study today, is one of those battles where the mana cap and other rulesets dominate strategic considerations when putting together the team. The purple deck is available and I have a specific monster in mind to play the leading role. My strategy is to attack the frontline, so here is the team I put together:
I am using QUIX THE DEVIOUS to debuff the enemy's speed and provide a great choice of monsters to use in the battlefield. As I have written in many Battle Mage challenges, QUIX is also my favourite summoner.
The CHICKEN is here to act as cannon fodder and protect my midfield a little during the first round.
CARRION SHADE takes position 2, also to protect the midfield and perhaps also to score a miss, as he has the Flying ability with 3 speed.
Here is more midfield protection from WILY COYOTIAN, while he can also take a Super Sneak dab at the enemy backline.
Here is one of the two main damage dealers in position 4 to attack the enemy frontline, NAGA ASSASSIN. With her great speed, she will surely attack first.
The main attacker is SOUL STRANGLER, with 4 range. In a low mana battle, he should wipe out the enemy monsters one by one. He and NAGA ASSASSIN are in very safe positions as they will be protected by the Back To Basics ruleset.
In position 6 we have EVER-HUNGRY SKULL. He has the perfect stats for a Super Sneak gameplay. He has 10 shield and should also get a miss with 4 speed.
So now let's take a closer look at the battle in focus. My opponent chose a fire team led by Tarsa, which is a good idea with Super Sneak. The opposition team is mostly made up of melee monsters with a no-attack monster in first position, meaning, my Chicken won't be turned into chicken nuggets too soon.
In Round 1, Naga Assassin struck first to reduce the shield of Venari Heatsmith, followed by a solid smack from Ever-Hungry Skull at the enemy’s backline. Serpentine Spy took a swipe at the Skull and Soul Strangler took the rest of Heatsmith’s shield. Shade and Wily then got rid of the first enemy backline monster, while the Skull took a hammering but survived the first round.
In Round 2, Naga Assassin hat first strike again and Ever-Hungry Skull went down. That was a bit of a worry, because my archers were now exposed. Soul Strangler then took down the Heatsmith, which made the dominos tumble in the enemy camp. Shade then toasted the Miner, while Soul Strangler ad a lucky break and collected a miss to survive another round.
Naga Assassin took first shot, the Spy took the Chicken and Soul Strangler had the Spy as a pre-dinner snack. Radiated Skorcher then responded by taking out Shade Carrion, while the Monkey was cheeky enough to kill the Strangler :(
One shot from each Naga and Wily then ended the fight. We all went out for coffee and cake.
The strategy to attack the frontline rather than going for the Super Sneak worked very well in this battle. I anticipated my opponent's choice to focus on the ruleset and the Ever-Hungry Skull did a good job to smother attacks for an entire round. Once he departed my archers were exposed but had already done the damage to get rid of the enemy tank to make the house of cards come down. My frontline stood firm for longer than expected, as my opponent fielded a no-attack tank and there was also a degree of luck involved, when Soul Strangler collected a miss. That was a nice little battle and I hope you liked watching it.

Thanks for sharing! - @libertycrypto27

Ever-hungry skull in last position was a great choice. Good strategy!
Thanks a lot!
Nice work! How have you been?
thanks. I've been well but am really demotivated with posting and will probably take a break. the last 2 posts were under $10 and I put a lot of effort and time into then. I might stop with hive altogether don't know right now
I know that feeling. Most of mine come in under $10 and I put a fair amount of effort into most of them. I've found ways to simplify the writing, although I don't overly format my post like you do. You tend to post just for Splinterlands and are getting nice results usually. The one thing I have been focusing on is engaging others and making more friends, as I've done that I have been getting more automatic votes every post which helps. It's taken me months to get this far and I figure it will be another six before I consistently come in over $10 each post. You may want to try to get into silvergoldstackers still, if you delegate enough HP you get $4 per post pretty much automatic if you can find some more cool coins to share.
I haven't been doing Splinterlands posts because they take so long for me to put together. Instead of 45 minutes like I put into most of my posts it takes me around a few hours with Splinterlands. Don't give up though, if you keep at it and keep engaging other successful people with nice upvotes it will help. There are a few I'm still working on because they have great voting power. Try doing some other posts on other stuff, at first the pay will suck, I used to get less than $1 per post starting out and I'm averaging around $8 now but it took about nine months and I'm still learning the tricks! It's nice that you have the autovote from methodofmad, I wish I had that one!
you're right and thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have no idea what methodofmad is ;)
I am going to take a break from posting for a while but I will keep looking to see what is going on.
...well I posted again ;) Are you going to write your Splinterlands story?
and how have you been?
