Undervalued Comic Cover: Iron Fist #14
In this post, we will talk about the beauty of this comic cover as well as the potential increase of value in the future.
Art
For me, the contrast of colors makes this cover really pop to the eye. The white with the yellow is a perfect combo bringing out the two main characters, iron fist and sabretooth. This is the first appearance of sabretooth and it is always nice to see the character on the cover in a first appearance. The addition of the flames and stars around iron fist is also a nice addition making the battle more realistic.
Investment Value
This comic has flown under the radar in my opinion during this big boom we have seen in comic book value. Looking at a CGC 9.2 this book has a FMV of $775. Let's compare that to another bronze age villain key like ASM #300. Currently, ASM #300 has a FMV of $1,150. Now sabretooth is probably not in the same class as venom in terms of popularity, however with speculation of sabretooth making an appearance in an x-men movie in the future, there is a chance for the price to increase dramatically. Also, iron fist #14 is a rare book in high grades with only around 500 books available at this grade compared to nearly 3,000 for ASM #300.
In conclusion, this book is a great buy in my opinion at any grade. It has the beautiful art to make it a piece you can be proud to show off in your house as well as the invesmtnet potential of speculation for future Marvel projects. This is a book I am keeping my eye on and going to jump on if the price is right. Nice book. I had a 9.6 CGC at the shop that we sold way too early a few years back. I personally have a raw myself that’s in decent shape. Should probably dig it out one of these days.
Seems to be on the upswing right now so may not be a bad idea haha. Thanks for the comment!
I loved Iron Fist as a boy. An issue of Iron Fist was the first comic I ever bought on my own. It wasn't the Sabretooth issue and, even if it was, I certainly no longer have it, but the character still remains a little dear to me today.
