WOO Look at Perry Saturn during ECW Hardcore Heaven 1996!

I have finally finished up the summaries of all of Sabu's interviews with WSI and now it's time to do some back tracking to finish up those of WOO's Perry Saturn which I missed out on the first time round. Here's one of Perry Saturn talking about the time where he KO-ed Paul Varelans during his match with Taz in the ECW Hardcore Heaven 1996.

• The Taz vs. UFC Fighter Paul Varlens Incident:
  • During the ECW Hardcore Heaven event in 1996, Saturn was brought in to ensure that Varlens would lose to Taz in what was promoted as a shoot fight.
  • Varlens was reluctant to put Taz over cleanly, leading to a negotiation where Saturn was chosen to interfere.
  • Saturn delivered a missile dropkick that legitimately knocked out Varlens, ending the match decisively.
  • Despite the backstage tension, Varlens didn’t challenge Saturn afterward, likely deterred by the unified locker room.

• Working with Shoot Fighters:
  • Saturn touched on the difficulties some shoot fighters have in understanding the scripted nature of professional wrestling.
  • He contrasted Varlens with Josh Barnett, another shoot fighter he worked with in Japan, who understood the blend of realism and performance in wrestling.

• The Ron and Don Harris Prank:
  • Saturn shared a humorous story about how Don Harris repeatedly impersonated his twin brother Ron during a match setup.
  • Don’s prank led to Saturn mistakenly superkicking Ron right in the face during the match, causing a brief backstage scuffle before the misunderstanding was cleared up.

• The Sandman Incident:
  • Saturn recalled an early incident with The Sandman, where a reckless cane shot to the ear led to some friction between the two.
  • Despite the rough start, Saturn acknowledged that The Sandman eventually became a solid and reliable worker in the ring.
