Tokens, Airdrops, Web3 and Gaming's Next Moves
One area which I started to get involved with is Gala Games now while I don't have a node I do play a few of their games rather heavily and enjoy my time in them. The two primary ones I play myself are Champions Arena and Eternal Paradox. But I do test the waters for a lot of their other games.
Gala games is a hub for many games some of which they build themselves and others that they bring in from third party developers. This is also something that is being attempted on the hive blockchain through Arcade Colony but hasn't gotten off the ground as of yet.
Now web3 gaming is not new but it's rapidly advancing in terms of the quality of he games and building out solid structures of value for the assets within them. They are also incorporating other things into the game such as DeFi and swap fees to sustain the ecosystem and I'd even say Splinterlands is starting to heavily move into this direction as well which is a great thing.
Illuvium
Illuvium has been getting a fair amount of attention with their new game releases and all was wonderful. However recent changes have already shown that they are starting to reduce emissions on land for example. These are things that will and should always be adjusted in games and they should go off of the supply and demand happening in the game. Much like real world markets where inflation is used so to should it be used in games but adjusted at the rates and also the big plus all of this has is a possible fee/burn rate which would help reduce the supply as well. Illuvium does this via gas price in order to enter areas to get better rewards from questing.
Now much like the others Illuvium is suppose to be launching a bunch of games as well. But all of these places seem at least to end users be taking their sweet time on these releases.
It really shouldn't be that complicated as we know popular mobile games like clash of clans and the likes make profitable money for other companies that are not even in the web2 space!
Many of these games go off of actions in games in order to earn "air drop" tokens for the game. It's a way to build engagement within the game and reward people for doing so. It's smart, it works but it also brings out the bots!
There's always two sides of every story. Those that feel bots should be allowed and others that say they should be aggressively taken down.
Personally I'm on the side of they should be aggressively taken down. All bots ever do is destroy games, give bot users unfair advantages and so forth.
One place is looking to try something new with API checks called Proof of Exposure which is an allow list verification system developed by Confiction Labs.
So far this looks promising as elimination of bots or removing them as best as possible will give real players more value in the assets they build and grow as they simply would not be able to keep up with bot accounts.
It's going to be interesting to watch this all play out but what I'm seeing so far is more and more push against bots and more towards real human interaction and I believe that's a recipe for success. I don't know of one single real human player whos thought that removing bots was a bad idea.

But I think these bots are used by projects to actually boost the level of their users or boost activities, both real players eventually suffers, as we've seen it happen on splinterlands as well.
It's like that damned if you do, damned if you don't
I've seen some videos about Illuvium. From the videos I've seen it seems well set up graphically, but I've never gone further. If I'm not mistaken it runs on Ethereum and this is already a minus. I tried Townstar from Gala Games, but for 1 year now I've lost enthusiasm
What is the utility of the GALA token when you play games on their platform? 🤔
I agree, bots bring nothing positive to the ecosystem. Splinterlands is a prime example of this as bots have severely damaged the game.
I've been watching Gala as well for some time mainly because of Illuvium. I haven't actively played so I can't comment on the bots there, but inflation is always a huge problems for any game. It ended Axie's run a the top of the play 2 earn...
