Selling 500K Rift Watcher Gems will require a miracle
Since the release of the previous Rift Watcher legendary monster, a grand total of 10,951 gems have been sold in the game. This is coming roughly after over two weeks and as expected, it is at a very slow pace.
Mine and most people's theory is that the only way the pace of Rift Watcher sales will pick up pace is if and only if SPS rallies. That is highly unlikely, considering the state of things, so there's really no hope any time soon.
The crypt market has been hovering over hot coal for sometime now, just floating above the abyss and constantly on the brink of cataclysm. We're at the mercy of numerous agents of FUD and this is probably why we haven't seen SPS make any considerable moves.
Lets face it, with the industry facing an existential crisis, massive institutions like Binance facing actual death threats from the financial watchdogs and the potential of even more sell offs fro spooked investors to happen, perhaps this might not be the time for people to worry about how assets in a game perform.
In fact, when you think about it, this is probably the time when spooked investors and participants will be looking to pitch their tents somewhere less luxurious. This is not a case of safety because Splinterlands is safe and will be around for a long time but more of a reaction to the market.
In any case, this situation will not rub off well on the chances of Rift Watchers because the sale of this particular collection is dependent on the price of SPS token. Bigger players will not be looking to use their hard earned SPS or vouchers, for that matter, to buy gems that even when opened with potions, you probably won't still break even with because of the current price of monsters.
Waiting it out
Despite my need for funds, I'll be waiting out the storm, for the most part. In fact, thanks to Hive's mechanism that enables me to earn from my publications, I'll even be buying tiny amounts from the market with my post rewards.
I seriously doubt there will be any cause to rejoice in the next couple of months, as I suspect that agents of FUD are cooking even more misery for the market. The most likely situation is that SPS and the general crypto market will drop even further, presenting potential investors with an opportunity to slowly grow our collection.
Rift Watchers aren't going anywhere, anytime soon but considering that a proposal was approved for Chaos Legion packs to be burnt, I won't rule out the chances of that happening. If that doesn't happen, though, you can expect that I'll be slowly stacking and staking SPS tokens that will enable me to buy Rift Watchers at a much cheaper rate for the foreseeable future.

I don't think we should have reserved Chaos Legion packs as end of Season Rewards. I think we should have stopped it (or let them burn out) - in order to promote the sale of the Rift Watchers set.
The reality is that most people (who want a max set) already have one - I got one through pack openings in the first week, but I knew Rift Watchers was coming for a very long time.
