Splinterlands uses KE ratio for ensuring a fair curation system
Splinterlands is more than just a game and we all know it. While we can play the game and have fun and also earn crypto from it, we also can extend our earnings outside the game itself. There are many content challenges running periodically by Splinterlands which manually curates the posts and performs curation on them. Not only that this ensure an organic marketing, but it also builds a true community around it by rewarding the participants. And what I like about it is that not a long time ago they have introduced the use of KE ratio (past rewards earned divided by the currently held Hive Power) when performing curation, thus building up in my opinion a fairer system for spreading rewards. This translates into the fact that participants who demonstrate an investor mindset by holding and growing their HP are more likely to be rewarded. Those who consistently extract all rewards without reinvesting into the ecosystem may not be eligible for prizes.
Surrounding the game with a healthy blogging dimension
The blogging side of Splinterlands has become one of my favorite parts of the game and I see it as a marketing play as well. It’s not just about battling cards anymore, but also about telling stories about them, reviewing strategies or even creating art. With curation performed manually by Splinterlands team which is guided by the KE ratio, the rewards feel less random and more earned. I’ve noticed how new content creators who take the time to reinvest a portion of their earnings back actually get more traction. They’re not just writing for a quick payout, but they’re slowly becoming part of the community built around this game. That mix of gaming and blogging creates a cycle of organic marketing that no traditional ad campaign could replace. And as I see it, this is a strategy for the long run.
Rewards that are fair to participants
One of the things I’ve always respected about Splinterlands is its effort to balance fun with fairness. The KE ratio adds an extra layer to that balance. Instead of seeing the same “cash-and-dash” style bloggers always topping the charts, there’s more room for dedicated players who truly care about the project and also being on the Hive blockchain. Sure, it’s still competitive and people want the curation upvotes, but the system rewards patience, consistency and an investor mindset. Personally, I think that’s a good reflection of what blockchain gaming should be: not just short term hype, but long term value and believe me that I know it: I am here since 2017 and my KE ratio stands at 0.56 with Stake HP almost twice as big as the Author + Curation rewards.
My take on Splinterlands writing challenges
After spending countless hours both grinding battles and writing posts, I can say that Splinterlands’ approach to curation feels refreshing. In my opinion the KE ratio doesn’t punish creativity, but it filters out the short-term extractors or those milking the Hive blockchain. For those of us who enjoy the play2earn grind and want to see the game grow, this is a win. And this extends quite well to the blockchain the game is run on and somehow brings an ethic view on rewarding in a fair way the users from here. This way I believe that the quality and mindset of content creators from Hive is improved and all the users are active participants to the economy from here by not putting selling pressure at every corner.
At the end of the day, Splinterlands is proving that fair systems aren’t just possible in games, but they can also thrive in blogging and community rewards. The KE ratio might sound like a small technical tweak, but I believe more and more that it’s a big step toward a healthier broader ecosystem where effort, investment and passion actually matter. Through such a system I feel that we are all working towards the goal of elevating the Hive blockchain and its gaming space from here where Splinterlands is at its center. If we are to take a broader view, having a solid user base and one with an investor mindset when it comes to blockchain and crypto technologies are quite important for the future of ecosystem.

This is a good parameter to check who has a short-term or long-term mindset with Hive. It's good to support those who build here for the long term, and extractors should not receive much reward.
I totally agree and I think that KE ratio is creating an ethic conduit on the Hive blockchain in order to earn rewards also based on your skin in the game and belief in this blockchain.
Not that when there is a great article the community will not upvote it seriously, but it can filter out noise for those simply hunting the rewards.
Here I would like to say that there are some people working on this platform who are making a living from this earnings, bearing their daily expenses and paying their monthly rent, so their accounts are on power down.
That's true, but if we all were doing that and have constant selling price pressure, the Hive price would go to 0. I understand that some people make a living out of this, but in the same time they need also to think to keep this ecosystem healthy otherwise they will not have a place to make a living from (at least here). Thus, taking crypto out but also keeping a good ratio in would be a more balanced approach and will even late Hive capture value better. Better Hive price, less Hive required to cover daily living costs.
