Splinterlands Art Contest Week 256
Furball Spirit
Here's my entry for this weeks Splinterlands Art Contest.
Reimagining the feral spirit as a regular and playful cat, I decided to include a yarn ball which is a common toy for feline pets.

Feral Spirit
This art is inspired by the Feral Spirit, a common monster from the Life Deck. At max levels it will deal 4 melee damage, with 6 speed and 5 health, all of these for just 3 mana cost. This card does not gain any special abilities at higher levels but by default will have the sneak ability allowing it to deal damage to the backlines.
According to it's lore, the Feral spirit together with all other luminous monsters are a product of a catastrophic event called the Obliteration of Light. An event that caused all living creatures were destroyed from the surface of Khymeria.
Let's have a look at how I have completed this illustration.
Same with my other digital works, this drawing is made on the iPad Pro using the Apple Pencil 2, I purchased the app procreate which offers all the tools I need.
I start off by using the pencil to create guidelines which would help with the orientation of the face and where the facial features like eyes nose and mouth will be placed.
And still using the pencil tool , I proceeded to adding more of the details like the body of the cat as well as the yarn ball.
Once the pencil sketch has been completed, I will start creating the outlines using a solid black pen. The pencil sketches will be deleted later leaving the outline behind and because it is black will give it that pop together with the colors.
Once the outline is completed. I move to a separate layer to apply the colors. this will make sure that I would not be painting over the outlines. I started with the base color of the image which is purple.
Adding now more colors to the face, yellow eyes and teeth and ears.
I am going into detail now using darker or lighter shades, and streaks of white to create that light and shadow effect. You can see this now on the face and the paws of the cat.
I would simply be using a black background as the feral cat itself is already full of color and I want it to standout.
