Prologue

As much as I enjoy writing here on the Hive-Chain, I also enjoy playing Splinterlands a lot. Like really a lot, and I need... okay, I want to buy new cards from time to time. Just today, I upgraded my Runeseer Sevaya to level 3 in order to get the Repair-Ability. Great combo for battles with Agor Longtail, or with Rage. Sevaya is a great card, and I've been saving up for this.

Usually, I purchase cards via PayPal-Credit-Buy, but recently, thanks to increasing following of my posts and upvotes, I was more and more able to use those funds to buy Splinterland-Assets - and so it was for the Runeseer as well. You can read more about that in my latest Progress Report on HIVE. But how does that work?

PeakD - My Wallet

I generally use PeakD, not for any particular reason - I know that there are many other platforms, but I got used to this one a lot. So, let's go to our account by clicking on the symbol with our name in the upper right corner (in other platforms, please look for "My Account" or "My Profile" to find the wallet.

image.png

Go down on the page to the "HBD" section. Powering down HP to convert to HIVE takes a long time, extracts worth from this very interesting project and also lowers your KE-Ratio, which is important to get support from the community - so rather use your HBD. It's also much, much faster.

image.png

On this page, click on the little arrow-down button next to "Market". Then click "Convert to Hive", and put in the amount of HBD you'd like to convert. As you can see, I have 2 Conversions running at the moment. The Conversion takes around 3 days, a little longer I think - and the amount you're paid out after those 3 days depends on the median-ratio of HIVE to HBD, meaning, the price of both.

image.png

Right now, 1 HBD is worth 2,81 HIVE ( 0.928$ / 0.330$ ). HBD is usually around 1 $, while HIVE can fluctuate a lot - it was up to 0,50$ recently, which means one would've only gotten 2 HIVE per HBD. I don't play the game of timing the market, so I just convert whenever I get some.

image.png

After the conversion is complete, you will find the HIVE in your wallet. I personally stake 25% of the HIVE in order to grow my HP and improve my KE-Ratio, but that's up to you of course.

How to deposit HIVE into your Engine-Account

There are several ways again. You can exchange HIVE for swap.hive at beeswap or other swapping-tools, or you can just directly deposit into your hive.engine account - that's what I usually do. It costs a fee if 0,75%, which is very fair in my opinion.

So, let's go to the HIVE-Engine. Log into your account, and then go to your wallet. Choose the option to "Deposit".

image.png

Type in "HIVE" into the "Please select Token" part.

image.png

Your available balance will be shown - right now it's 0 HIVE for me, I got the idea for this post when I was doing the last withdrawl and didn't take screenshots. Sorry about that!

image.png

The Engine will automatically calculate how much HIVE you are going to receive, after taking out the 0,75% gas fee. Click on "Deposit HIVE" and confirm with the Keychain if necessary - and just a little later, the swap.hive will pop up in your Engine-Wallet, ready to be used to buy DEC or Packs or whatever you are looking for.

Except for cards. To buy cards, you have to use the swap.hive to buy DEC, transfer those into your Splinterlands account (on the DEC page). In this post you can read about that, even though it's about swapping SPS for DEC: How to swap SPS for DEC

EDIT: Just saw in a post from OG @bravetofu that he has made a similar guide about buying HIVE and turning it into DEC - if you hit a wall with my guide, maybe the answer is in his: Click me for the Tofu-Guide!

Conclusion

I'm very happy that I can now build my SPL account without depositing from PayPal all the time, it feels good - also because it's a hassle for me, living in Ecuador, having a German PayPal account and no good way to get money into my bank there to fund the PayPal account :-D

Hence, an alternative way to buy my favorite assets is really, really welcome.

Also, huge thanks to everyone that is supporting me here on the Blog. It means a lot to me to get all that feedback, and so many nice comments (and upvotes, of course). Thank you!

Thank you very much for reading, I hope you enjoyed it at least as much as I enjoyed writing :-D If you have any comments or feedback - please let me know! And don't forget to leave your own posts for me to curate. Thank you very much!

Write more posts like this one:)

https://peakd.com/hive-187189/@beelzael/hello-im-new-here-and-this-is-me--

Your blog will look varied and colorful and people will know you. You want to be a person here and not an account.

If you are a person people can love you or hate you. If you are an account you are just a number and expendable.

I'm working on something already :-) I will use the Blog-part to do those more personal posts, and the SPL I will only publish in splinterlands without writing in the blog as well, since I do want the blog to be something different. Would be great to be able to have different sections in a blog, like topics I write about - but I guess that can be reviewed in the hasthag-part. Still, having different pages that one can name would be nice, like on a real blog. Or is that possible, and I don't know about it yet?

You can write varied topics and post in different community.

  • Personal stuff on "Reflections" community
  • Financial stuff and business in "Finance and Economy" community
  • Splinterlands in you know what community :)

Etc.
