The silence after the storm - What's next?

Prologue

The pre-sale is over. After a day of a billion notifications of all the arcana foils drawn from packs - a thing they eventually fixed with the last update -, there's a couple of them a day. The party is over, a few drunk whales are lying around, opening some packs from time to time.

I myself had a bad hangover. And the best thing to get over a hangover is to get some more of the drug, so I bought 10 Alchemy packs with potions today and was lucky, drawing another black foil - the Canary Keeper. Cute little card, but it looks as clueless as how to be used as I am on how to use it. Does Dispell remove Painforge or Mimic?

In total, I spent:

$2800 in pre-sale

$100 Starter Packs

$120 extra-Alchemy Packs

Potions and all that was paid for with in-game earnings, Glint and DEC from my Hive-Blog.

So, let's see what my turn-out was 48h after the big bang.

Packs, packs, packs

Most of the list prices are out now, so I glanced at the Peakmonsters explorer to see what my draws are worth in total.

What was worth it?

Alchemy packs: 135 packs total, $1620 spending, $1555 Return - almost! 96%

Legendary: 20 packs total, $480 spending, $254 Return - only 53%

Standard: 206 packs total, $824 spending, 554$ Return - 67%

Starter: 100 packs total, $100 spending, 114$ Return - 114%

So, funny enough, the best value was in the starter packs. As of yet. One has to take into account that one of my Black Foils is 1/20 Arcane, so that gotta be worth more than the other black foils, which I think is the list price taken from the regular black foils.

I got 3 legendary gold foils, and just the right ones, all extremely powerful:

Okay, 4 BCX, but 3 different cards. Jicarilly is a sturdy and powerful healer, with only 1 speed she always comes last, when all the other monsters are hurting already. The Windseer gets Close Range at level 3, and for an Elf-Deck, this card is amazing thanks to Bloodline Tribute. Put it as tank, let it die and get more power for all your elves.

Bren - well, just look at it. Dual Attack Weapons Training, sneak and shapeshift. Any questions?

Is that all?

No, because what the return doesn't show is the actual gain that black foil cards make in the game.

Here you can see what a huge advantage a Black Foil actually is. I don't need any of the Gold nor the Regular foils, so I can easily sell all those. For the Giraffe and the Cindergrim, that makes around 27$. Use for Survival could also be an option.

I don't know what my Black Arcane is worth. I think I saw that an Epic Black Arcane went for $1800, which I thought wasn't that much considering it's one out of 5 cards existing. If it's a high price, I might just sell it and buy a lot more Alchemy packs - I'm a player, not a collector.

Conclusion

I'm probably going to keep more Alchemy Packs every once in a while. The Black Foils are just super powerful. I was extremely lucky in my BF-Pulls, given that the chances with potions are usually 2 in 400 cards / 2 in 80 packs, and I got 5 out of 675 / 5 out of 135. Not sure that luck will hold, but if it does, I won't complain.

I'm also going to keep buying starter packs to build my core deck. I'm not sure if I should keep all my GF, or sell them, or push them to max. I guess I'll decide that in a month or so, when I see how conflicts are going. I really want to get some of the Legendary Archons this time.

What else was there...?

Oh right. I finished up my Reward-Card Epics. As expected, I had to buy all 25 BCX to get that done.

Looks good, doesn't it? I almost forgot to buy the reward cards, the CA release made a huge impression.

I also earned the "Worker Bee" badge, as I reached half of my goal for 2025 already and now have 2500 HP - that's earlier than I had thought, and I'm very happy about it. If I keep the pace up, I might reach my goal in November already.
