I did it again... And might regret it. But not now!

I'm glad that Nero is in real life, and not in-game. He'd probably start a fight with Tofu right away. He doesn't like other cats too much, especially not in his territory.

Prologue

Only two weeks ago, I got myself my very own copy of a Tofu.. Since then, I had plenty of opportunities to try that card and learn how to use it. I'm getting better, and I think it does give me some advantages up to Bronze. Today, I woke up and saw a Tofu at 50$ per BCX, and exactly 2 BCX. And I couldn't resist. It was like someone had read my comment of wanting to buy two extra copies if the price hits 50$ again, and so it did. Whoever zhujr is - thank you!

Why now?

It's my biggest purchase and a big investment for me. Conclave Arcane is around the corner, and I wanted to save up for that, but sometimes there are just too good deals. But with CA around the corner, there's an additional risk - what if the team took the feedback on Tofu seriously and has developed more counters for this card, reducing its effect on the game-play - and hence its value? I thought about that after purchasing, of course.

Why Level 2?

Level 1 is quite alright for Novice and Bronze Tournaments. But you don't make much SPS there, there's a lot more to be made in Silver and above.

Also, I play a Gold Modern fray in my guild, and a level 1 legendary Summoner is just not enough for that. A level 2 Tofu, on the other hand, is OP enough to work out in a gold league. Same for the gold tournaments.

Going up against another amazing summoner, Kitty, in a Silver League Wild Tournament (after upgrading Tofu). 54 Mana, Reach for all, only odd mana cost, and no ranged.

image.png

Kitty has tank heal, so it makes sense to put a Taunt in the first position, and Agor with his Void Armor is an excellent option. Carnage Titan second is another good choice. Constantia to revive Agor (and his Void Armor intact). The Hireling to repair, weaponed-trained by Daarg with extra speed and triage, and the Guardian in the back - that is a very hard team to break.

Fortunately, my tactic is pretty good, too. First is a self-healing tank with Void Armor. Then in second position the taunt unit, the Lurker, with reach, phase and dodge. Brightwing to Repair and Revive, Janni Rebel for extra Melee damage, the Hoarder for Triage, and then the Sandworm to take out the back units.

Now, guess which of my units gets Triage and Scavenge?

Round 1

image.png

It's the Imperial Knight! Bold choice, I know, BUT: Putting it on the Lurker is more risky, as I could lose it before it gets a Scavenge. The Knight has heal, so the more LP it has, the more it can heal itself. And it's more likely for the Lurker to die and be revived first, giving the Knight extra LP.

First round is already awesome. My tactic seems to be working, the Knight loses some armor, but gives thorns to its attackers. The Lurker gets healed right up at the end, but so does Agor at the beginning of Round 2.

Round 2

image.png

Agor gets back to 12 health and 2 armor before my monsters can attack, due to the speed difference. The Coeurl Lurker is able to absorb any attack, and gets healed back up. Luckily for me, the Sandworm is able to hit the faster and flying Agor thanks to Snare, which gets revived and killed again.

2 LP for the Knight, which was almost done already. But the tank is down, and Carnage Titan is not much for a Tank. All their units fall, one by one. The battle ends in round 5.

image.png

Same Tactic, different battle, same outcome.

Here's another one where I use the Lurker as Reach-Taunt-Tank. This time I give Blight the Scavenge and Triage. Still Silver League, so Blight doesn't have Scavenge yet. Some 0 mana monster as scavenge fodder - if it comes to it, but it doesn't.

Conclusion

I'm so going to juice that card until CA arrives - and hopefully longer! As you can see in this match, it's not only the Thorns that help a lot, but the Scavenger + Triage combo. Additionally, the Snare basically gives True Strike against Flying monsters. The more I play it, the more I realize just HOW powerful Tofu really is. Makes me even happier that Nero can't fight Tofu. If even Kitty got a bloody nose, well...

Even though this is my 8th year on the chain, I never played this game despite loving playing games in my free time. I just feel like I am too late to the party lol

Never too late! Pretty sure of that 😅 The game has evolved a lot, that's true, but it's maintaining the value of "old" cards & players while also creating opportunities for new players. I think the Conclave Arcane update will bring a ton of new players into the realm, and with much chance of success with a format that promotes new cards & players. Can't recommend it enough!

I think this was a good investment. Tofu will always be a good card to have and the higher level you can get it will be more useful.

That's what I think, too! We'll see what CA brings :-)
