Big Ghost Card Tournament - What a blast!
The Tournament
For the new year, the DAO created a big tournament - the New Year's Eve Rebellion (click here to see the results). It was a diamond league ghost card tournament, so the perfect occasion to test my skills with cards that I'm not even dreaming of playing - Tofu, Lorkus, Mantaroth and the newest killer - Helloise. And it was SO MUCH FUN!
I was quite scared in the beginning, butting heads with the greatest of the great of Splinterlands - but had the hope that most of the players would be middle "class" like me or maybe even newbies, since it was an open tournament.
Round 1
I started out surprisingly good, taking 10 wins out of 14 battles, of that 3 fled. So, bascially 7 wins, 4 losses, not too shabby considering that I usually play Gold League Modern in Brawls and Tournaments - the bot takes care of the Wild Diamond League.
Here are some cool battles:
Battle 1 - Mantaroughing them up
My opponent did a few placing mistakes here, but it was the first time that I used Mantaroth in my life - boy, what a great card!
Battle 2 - Hell'it'is
What a great battle that was! It shows all the weakness that Helloise has. I thought that it was a OP card, but there are actually quite a few ways to beat her. Still, it was supercool to play here :-)
Battle 3 - More hell!
This one was super nice to watch, since I did took more advantage of the ruleset by putting the Venator next to Helloise. Awesome battle!
Round 2
Round 2 started amazing! I won the first 7 battles in a row and actually was on third place for a couple of hours - and I have proof! 😎
Battle 1 - Quora vs. Tofu
In this one, I played Ulfga for the first time - such a great card! Also, having Quora at max level really helped out against Jared Scar. Also, Croire and th Smith are just amazing cards at max level. And again - Maaaantaaaaaaroooooooth!
Battle 2 - Poison vs. Armor
In this battle all units had extra armor, and the mana threshold was very low - perfect to try Waka Spiritblade for the first time! This card only costs 3 mana, and allowed me to use a few other cards. The Wailing Wraith surprised me, I don't even have that card yet - but it's incredibly usefull with Armor Strike (remember the +2 Armor), Rust and Affliction. Probably going to put that one on my wish-list 😎
Battle 3 - Disco Dance!
The idea of this one was to have my two Melee-Monsters protected by Fizbo against the Thorns-Ruleset. Funny enough, neither one made a difference at all since the Runi took them both out quite quickly - winner of the match was Rage with its life leech, giving him 3 extra life each round, and the Night Reaper with Reflection shield, against the exploders on the enemy team.
Conclusion
I had so much fun in this tournament! It was really a confirmation that I have grown as a player, that some of my favorite tactics actually are quite usefull even outside of my Gold-Comfort-Zone (which I just recently upgraded from Silver, I think it's 2 months playing Gold now), and that there's still quite a bit of potential to take advantage of - if I just had more money 😂 But playing those Ghost-Card-Tournaments is now in my radar, I hope there will be more.
Huge thanks to @splinterlands for hosting this tournament, and for the Rebellion pack I won - in the end, I finished 51 of 411 - That's a place in the first 15%!
