Welcome back, all Splinterlands fans,

This week, I want to dive into a unit that’s been sneaking its way into my lineups more and more. A card I personally enjoy playing and one that often surprises opponents who underestimate it.
I’ve noticed it popping up regularly in my brawls and even in my ranked modern matches. I’m talking about none other than Dark Arborist.

Before we get into the details, a little side note. I’m restarting my modern ranked journey this season again.
I’ve decided to aim for the Silver Leaderboard again this season. It’s been a while since I pushed for a higher ranking there, but the plan is to rack up some nice leaderboard prized, grab a few extra entry tickets, and hopefully secure a decent Glint bonus by the end of the season.
It’s always a fun challenge to see how far I can go, especially while testing different strategies and lineups that are slightly outside the meta.

But back to the topic, Dark Arborist deserves some attention.

Why Dark Arborist Stands Out

This card might not be a flashy legendary or a go-to pick in everyone’s deck, but it quietly brings a lot of utility and value for its mana cost. Here are the main reasons why I really like this unit:

  1. It can be played in Little League.

At just 4 mana, Dark Arborist fits perfectly into the Little League ruleset, where units with a mana cost of 4 or less are allowed. Many players underestimate how strong a low-mana magic attacker can be.

  2. It has Magic Reflect.

This ability alone makes it a dangerous pick against heavy magic teams. Magic Reflect returns damage back to attackers, and when you place Dark Arborist strategically, it can deal a surprising amount of return damage. In some matches, it even ends up taking out more expensive magic units before going down itself.

  3. It has Demoralize.

The Demoralize ability reduces the melee attack of all enemy monsters. This can swing close battles in your favor, especially when combined with defensive units or summoners that lower physical damage further. In lower mana matches, cutting melee damage even by one can completely change the outcome.

When you pair Dark Arborist with Lorkus. one of my most-used summoners both in brawls and modern matches, it becomes a very solid choice. With Lorkus giving +1 magic damage, the Arborist hits for 3 magic damage per turn, which is a huge output considering the mana cost. For only 4 mana, that’s incredible value.

Performance and Stats

Now, I know everyone says their favorite card is underrated, but the numbers don’t lie .
I’ve tracked my stats, and Dark Arborist has 62 wins in 344 matches. That’s quite impressive for a card many players overlook.

The Arborist has earned its place as a reliable pick in several matchups, especially when the Little League or Only Magic rulesets appear.

Battle Examples

Let’s look at a couple of real battles where Dark Arborist showed its worth.

Brawl Match Example:

This was from one of my recent brawls. In this match, the Dark Arborist stood its ground and dealt consistent damage throughout the fight. It managed to eliminate a few enemy units and remained a key factor in turning the battle in my favor.

Magic-Only Ruleset Match:

In this battle, I placed Dark Arborist in the front line. Fully expecting it to get taken out quickly. But since it was an Only Magic game, the Magic Reflect ability became important. Every hit it took was mirrored right back, dealing serious return damage. The longer the battle went on, the more it punished my opponent’s lineup. By the end, it had done more than enough to secure the win.

This is where the Dark Arborist really shines. It might not look like a tank, but in certain rulesets, it acts like one while still contributing significant offensive pressure.

Final Thoughts

So there you have it, a small praise piece for one of my favorite underrated units, Dark Arborist. It’s one of those cards that doesn’t make headlines or dominate the leaderboard stats, but when used right, it can swing matches in your favor in subtle but powerful ways.

The combination of Magic Reflect and Demoralize gives it defensive strength, while its low mana cost and synergy with summoners like Lorkus make it easy to slot into a variety of team setups. Whether you’re playing Little League or facing a magic-heavy ruleset, this card can be the hidden hero that keeps your team alive longer and deals more total damage than you expect.

What about you? Do you use Dark Arborist often, or do you have another low-mana favorite that fits similar roles? Let me know in the comments.

I never thought much about the Dark Arborist, but it sounds really useful in low, mana battles. I’ll have to try it out and see how those abilities can turn matches around.
