Surprise! Campaign Mode & Foundation Set Have Landed — And It’s a Big Deal
Wow. No teaser, no countdown, no huge announcement. Just bam—Splinterlands dropped what I think is a huge update we’ve seen in a while. Without much fuss, we suddenly got our hands on Campaign Mode and the brand-new Foundation Card Set, and honestly, I’m still processing how big this is.
And let me tell you... I’m thrilled.
Why This Update Hits Different
The first iteration of Campaign Mode is focused entirely on new players. It’s a clean, structured way to teach game mechanics: attack types, unit placement, mana caps, abilities, elements, battle rules... All those things that we OGs take for granted but are pretty overwhelming if you’re just starting out. I mean, think about it—there’s a ton to absorb when you first jump into Splinterlands. This tutorial-style gameplay makes that learning curve so much smoother.
For experienced players, we’ll fly through the first chapter in five minutes flat. But it’s not about us—this is about onboarding. This is about retention. It’s a tutorial that doesn’t suck.
And you know what excites me even more? This is just the beginning. The framework is there now. They can build on it, evolve it, and start offering real challenges—not just learning the mechanics but actually testing your strategic skills in clever and constrained ways.
The PVE Dream Begins
Personally, I love the idea of PVE battles. Campaign Mode lets me play on my own time, at my own pace, without depending on RNG or running into a whale deck I just can’t beat. Ranked is fun, sure, but sometimes you just want to sit down and solve a puzzle. That’s what Campaign Mode can become: curated scenarios, maybe limited card options, specific unit placements needed to win—actual puzzle battles.
They could make these challenges with Easy / Medium / Hard settings. Run them three times for different rewards—soulbound cards, Glint, whatever. It’s a loop that could be really fun and rewarding without ever touching Ranked or needing a maxed deck.
The Foundation Set: For New Players, But Usable Too
The Foundation Card Set dropped alongside the campaign, and while the cards are basic (by design), they’re a solid stepping stone for new players. That’s what this whole launch is about—accessibility. Get new blood into the game, get them understanding mechanics, give them starter cards that don’t feel useless.
And you know what? I even tried one of them in Modern—and I won the match. 😎 Okay okay, it was partly for testing the Splinterlands Statistics Tool (which also had a v0.26.2 release—check it out), but still. These cards aren’t just filler. They’ve hinted that future campaign chapters may let us level up these cards too. That’s spicy.
Meanwhile… What About Conclave?
Well, I couldn’t resist anymore. Prices on potions dipped below what I could craft them for, so... I cracked open 250 Conclave Arcana packs.
Pulled a bunch of average cards, and only one common black foil—definitely hoped for more, but hey, RNG is RNG.
Now it’s time to plan the next move: leveling them smartly so I can place them efficiently on wagons when Conflict drops. I’m hoping we’ve got at least a month or two to prepare because it’ll definitely cost some extra DEC—and most of mine is already tied up in land. Long-term strategy, baby.
Also, part of my reason for opening those packs was for brawls. We’ve been struggling with modern frays in our guild, and I wanted to be eligible for one. Glad I pulled the trigger.
Final Thoughts
This surprise release is a win on so many fronts: onboarding, content expansion, card accessibility, and long-term potential. Campaign Mode isn’t just a one-off feature—it’s a platform. The Foundation Set isn’t just a tutorial tool—it’s the first step in a new system. Add in the buzz from Conclave and some good brawl prep, and Splinterlands is popping right now.
Let’s just hope we can ride this wave and keep delivering quality updates like this. The foundation is set—now let’s build something epic on top of it.

Pretty cool, I will write my impressions of it hopefully today :)
Will read it... really great update the last weeks/months 😍
Hopefully the campaign is the start of a great Q3 and we see more chapters sooner rather than later, think it’s a watered down version of what Nate wanted with all the cut scenes etc so hope he gets to go back and add to it in his original vision. can’t wait to see where it goes with the full PVE experience
Agreed—this is definitely an MVP (Minimal Viable Product), but it's a solid and interesting start to build on. I really hope they can take it to the next level with features like cutscenes in the future. Considering how small the dev team is, what they've delivered so far is pretty impressive, if you ask me! 🙂
Definitely, it’s been an amazing few months, looking forward to next 7 years!
