Introduction

Here we go again—another social media challenge! I'm back with my ongoing series about abilities, and let me tell you, the list is really starting to grow. Ant the Splinterlands team keeps surprising us with new abilities, so there’s always more to explore and write about.

This time, let’s take a closer look at Reflection Shield—one of those abilities that can really turn the tide in a battle.

This we have a look at reflection shield

Ability

An unit with reflection shield doesn't take damage from Blast, Magic Reflect, Thorns, or Return Fire

Notes:

  • Reflection Shield protects against Corrosive Ward.
  • Amplify will not cause Reflection Shield to fail.
  • Reflection Shield does not protect against Backfire, Retaliate, or Redemption.
  • Expose can remove Reflection Shield from the defender.

Synergies / strategy

Abilities benefits
Thorns / Magic reflect / Return fire - when this are on the battlefield the reflection shield i very good to prevent any return damage.
Blast - Unit with reflection shield are protected form blast damage.

Ruleset benefits
Explosive Weaponry - Units with Reflection Shield take no damage from Blast. Consider placing them in the second position - protecting your backline from damage. A Unit with Taunt in the first position will buy your backline time to get attacks in.

Briar Patch/Counterspell/Fire & Regret - With these ruleset all units have some sort of return damage so an reflection shield unit is very helpful in this case.

Select / favorite

Mine reflection shield units:

Tide Biter

When i started this post i had a top 3:

  • Corsair Bosun
  • Venator Kinjo
  • Tide Biter
Of course runi should also be in that list but that one excluded because its working on land.

Each of these 3 have great battle stats:

Still i have chosen Tide Biter because i use it often of its reflection shield in the second position when the explosive weaponry is in the mix.
It cheap in $ and mana so in little league it also a viable option.

Some specific stats on mine Tide Biter:

Strategy

Low mana cap battle i often tend to water and in this case tide biter is great unit because it is low mana has reach and

Rulesets

Aim True:
All units have true strike meaning every hit will count. No misses

Explosive Weaponry:
Every unit gains the blast ability. In combination with the fog of war rule set its useful to put an reflection shield in the second and third position.

Fog of War:
Units lose Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity

The Lineup

Summoner

CardReason
Either Lux or kelya was the pick, here i needed the extra mana for a extra unit. So kelya it is.

Monsters Lineup

#1#2#3#4#5#6

Halfling Refugee (lvl 4)
Such a great unit that is now a day very often in my low mana cap matches.
I do not mind the exhaust it does not trigger that often and when its not triggered it does a solid 3 damage.

Tide Biter (lvl 6)
Star of this week in the second position it can do 3 damage. The reflection shield is important in this match because all have blast.

Venator Kinjo (lvl 4)
My second reflection shield unit that is still protected when the Tide Biter is in the front.

Musa Saline (lvl 4)
This unit will gain health while other units die so i can gain at least 3 health before it in the front.

Igor Darkspear (lvl 6)
Another low cost unit that does a solid 3 damage. When ever you have a unit that does more damage then it cost is almost by definition a good unit.

Torrent Fiend (lvl 4)
I expect some range or magic unit so this unit reduces the attacking power.

Rounds

Start :

Let’s dive into the battle lineup! Right away, I notice Doctor Blight—always a solid choice in these low-mana matchups. A powerhouse that can chip away at opponents with ease. On the other side, I think my opponent made a key oversight: no Reflection Shield unit. That might just give me the edge I need to turn this match in my favor.

Round 1:

image.png
What a strong start—I’ve already taken down two of their units! My Reflection Shield is putting in work, soaking up all that Blast damage like a champ.

On the other side, their Doctor Blight is starting to look scary with 7 health, and they’ve poisoned my Halfling Refugee. That’s going to be a problem so my tide biter will be in the front soon.

One thing working in my favor is their Xenith Archer being stuck in the front line. Ranged cannot attack from this place!

Round 2:

image.png
Still going strong! Another one of their units bites the dust, and now my Tide Biter has taken the front position. Meanwhile, the Reflection Shield on Venator Kinjo continues to protect my lineup from all that nasty Blast damage—what a lifesaver!

On their side, Doctor Blight is starting to become a real menace with 9 health. There’s a reason this card is so popular; it just keeps getting harder to deal with as the match goes on.

Round 3:

image.png
The match is nearly wrapped up. All my attack power is now locked onto Doctor Blight, and it’s just a matter of time before they go down. I’ve got enough firepower to finish the job, so this one’s pretty much in the bag!

Round 4:

Victory!

Conclusion

This match highlights just how important Reflection Shield can be, especially in the Explosive Weaponry ruleset. It’s also a standout ability in other situations with heavy return damage, like Magic Reflect, Thorns, or Return Fire. Reflection Shield really shines in these scenarios, keeping your team safe and in control.

A special shoutout to Tide Biter—an incredible low-mana unit with Reach and Reflection Shield. It’s a versatile pick that fits perfectly into a variety of strategies. Definitely a card to keep in mind for your lineups!
