Ulund Battle Lineup

Hello fellow Splinterlands players. I'm once again submitting an entry for the weekly community engagement challenge and this time it's all about our favorite battle lineup. I know I've mentioned it somewhere before but when I first saw the card collection of Conclave Arcane, one of the creature types that really caught my attention and those are the Ulunds. I've seen vampires, werewolves, lizardmen, merfolks, but I don't think I've ever encountered hippomen in fantasy games yet. So for this challenge, I am highlighting my favorite Ulund-themed battle lineup.

Archon - Bella Ratajowlski

First we must choose our archon and that is none other than Bella. Out of all the rare archons from the starter packs, she is one of the most expensive ones. What makes her essential is she can summon Ulunds even though they are not from the Life element and she gives them shield. But even without it, the deflect ability is really, really useful for me as I always encounter enemies that bounce off my attacks and this nullifies those damages.

Tank - Ulundin Overseer

Ulundin Overseer is probably the most straightforward tank that I've seen in Splinterlands. It has a high armor and an even higher health points. This is balanced by it having the lowest speed point, high mana cost, and no attack capability. But for the role of just withstanding enemy damages for as long as possible, it does the job well. Having Bella means it will have even better physical defenses. The only thing it's missing is void armor.

Secondary Tank / Magic Offensive - Mystic Mudbinder

Next is probably my most favorite Ulund card, Mystic Mudbinder. I usually position it just behind Ulundin Overseer as a backup tank once Overseer goes down. It has a high armor which be used to block magic damage. It can also be used offesively when armored striked is unlocked but I haven't had the chance to use it at level 8 yet. I'd imagine it would be a great combo since Ulundin Overseer has Flank which will allow Mudbinder to attack with the armored strike from the second position. It also has heal at the maximum level which is amazingly powerful in my opinion.

Magic Offensive - Thunderous Herald

For the next card, it's another magic attack Ulund, Thunderous Herald. This one is a little bit disappointing because when I loook through the stats progression, it never really increases the magic damage output even at mx level. But for 6 mana, it's sturdy and a somewhat reliable support both for additional magic damage and weakening the enemy tank's melee attack. I just wish it has at least 3 magic attack so that the Relentless Strike would be more reliable.

Backline Tank / Range Offensive / Healer - Calabash Sage

Lastly, there is Calabash Sage in the back position. This is another defensive monster that can be used to block enemy cards that capitalize on the Sneak ability. What I like about Calabash Sage though is that it also has a high range attack. But in order for this to work, I would need to use non-Ulund cards to destroy enemy armor. It also heals so it's a great support for the front Ulund cards with high armor.

Battle with Ulund Cards

Here is an example of my battle using Ulund type cards: Battle link

The battle rule is Noxious Fumes which means all cards in the battle are poisoned at the start of the match. I'm a little bit at an advantage since most of my units have armor and they're a bit higher in health. I also chose not to use Ulundin Overseer because of the mana limit. I placed Mystic Mudbinder, Thunderous Herald and Calabash Sage as my Ulund cards. I also entered a Boring Hobgoblin in anticipation that the enemy might bring out magic cards which they did, two of them.

The poison effect dealt severe damage to all cards early on and most did not survive by the third round arrived. Thanks to the Deflect ability of Bella, the enemy's Chaos Evoker did not spread the magic damage to the adjacent unit. Having two healers in the back slot also helped Grimbardun Fighter stay longer in the battle.

In the end, having high health and healers are the factors that won me this match. Whether it is physical attacks or magic, having strong defensive capabilities matter a lot in this strategy.
