Foundation Cards
I've described in my previous post my playthrough experience with the new campaign mode of Splinterlands. And as I've mentioned in that post, I thought that there was one or two parts of the campaign that was a bit harder to solve especially for total beginners new to the game. Luckily, I managed to complete all the tasks. The rewards that I got were 42 new cards under the Foundation set category.
And if I were to give an honest feeback about these cards, I would say that they are pretty useful, especially for players like me that doesn't have a deep collection of modern cards yet. I know foundation cards were meant to be overly expensive in terms of mana cost and have no outstanding abilities, but I still find myself having to utilize a card or two from them whenever I build a lineup for a match.
I can also say that the artwork in the Foundation cards were really amazing and felt like they were supposed to be in the main Conclave Arcana set. One problem with them though is that they are at level one with no way to increase it at the moment. And even if leveling is enabled, they only got to about half of what a regular card's maximum level is. Not that I'm complaining, free card is free card.

Among all other Foundation cards, there is one that stands out as I've seen it used frequently and I've also learned to adapt to it as well. That card is the archon, Marlai Singariel.
What makes Marlai different is that she gives an additional 1 magic damage to allied cards. I believe this is the only card in modern that have that ability. I value magic damage more than melee and range because it goes straight for the health of the enemy card, ignoring armor.
And upon using this archon, I managed to get a higher winrate compared to when I was experimenting with various archons. I'm currently having trouble advancing past the bronze league and hopefully spamming Marlai will finally let me move on to silver. Here is one example of a match using Marlai: battle link
Because Marlai is under the water element, I have access to Commander Slade which is my favorite tank card to use in battles. It is also important to have a very durable front card because magic attack cards are very, very weak in terms of defense. I also managed to include another Foundation card which is Great Bear Druid. I selected this card because aside from magic, it also has melee attack and high health making it a good second line of defense. The rest of my team are all magic cards that will deal heavy damage to the enemies.

Despite the enemy tank having some form of protection from magic, the rule gives all units opportunity. The magic damage dealers made short work of the enemy backline. The Grimbardun Fighter was left all alone in the end and was defeated in the fifth round.
Overall, the new Foundation cards are good enough to use in ranked play especially when you are in the bronze league. I think it was designed right for beginners and would be great to use against other Foundation cards. I'm looking forward to trying out the new Foundation set game mode that the team has announced. This would make free to play Splinterlands experience very memorable and hopefully attract them to paying for assets in the main game.
