Splinterlnds Battle Mage Secrets - Keep Your Distance
Hey!
Welcome to another Battle Mage Secrets post, in this case featuring the “Keep Your Distance”, rule, where Melee Monsters are not allowed.
Keep Your Distance

Well, no Melee Monsters allowed, including those with mixed attacks, like Quora for example… so, that leaves you out with Ranged and Magic attackers.
From a defensive point of view, you should use the Headwinds and/or Silence effects, which de-buff Ranged and Magic attacks, respectively. As always, the election of the cards in the first position matters, so cards with high evasion, Shield and/or Void are great to halve incoming attacks.
At the same time, you could position a Lookout in the third position, to protect the second Monster, from a possible Sniper. Tank Healers and Triage cards are always a must if you want to hold the line more effectively.
From an offensive point of view, try to buff your card’s attacks to inflict more damage, of course. Using Snipers and Monsters with Blast, could help you get rid of possible Healers in the enemy team.

Lineup & Analysis
Battle done in the Wild Diamond League, but with Silver level cards… give or take… anyways, the only Splinters allowed were Fire and Life and, besides the “Keep Your Distance” rule, we also had “Armored Up”, which grants two pieces of Armor to every card in the field, and “Fire & Regret”, which allows Monsters to return the damage done by Ranged attacks. Plenty of Mana to spare, by the way.
Considering the Fire & Regret rule was in effect, Magical cards were the obvious way to approach the attack and I think that in this aspect I had better options in my Life deck, so…

- I wanted to use an special Gladius, so I picked Franz Ruffmane as my Summoner.
- As my tank I used the Harbinger of Chaos, which is a great option here, since it has a Divine Shield and a decent amount of hit points.
- As a second tank, also boosting my whole team’s hit points, Djinn Renova. It also has a nice deal of health.
- Next, guarding Djinn Renova, the Thanalorian Archer, who has a weak Sniping attack, but has the Lookout ability, which sometimes is quite handy.
- Then, the Time Mage, which has a decent Magic attack and is also able to slow down my opponent.
- In fifth position, the Magi of Chaos. Decent attack, decent health…, what else?
- At last, as a secret weapon, Captain Katie. Very dangerous Gladius, with an Sniping Magic attack of three points.

Well, my opponent assembled a weird looking team, so I assume the battle was handled by a bot. Not that his cards were particularly bad, but their order is odd. Besides, it was a waste of Mana points. On top of that, he made use of some Ranged attackers while there was a Return Fire rule in effect, so yeah… that. And so, the battle was overwhelmingly in my side, because I used Magical Monsters, basically.
