Hello everyone~~ ^^ How are you?
Here’s my drawing for the Splinterlands Art Contest. For this week’s contest, I chose a character from the old cards and the name of this character is “Iza the Fanged”. The features that I really like about this character is the red snake on her chest and the other thing that caught my attention was the shape of her tongue and also her pose. I also like the white highlights on her hair. It makes her look unique ^^

I started with a quick sketch of a girl and then tried to add all those important features of this character. I mean like that unique shape of tongue that looks like a snake and also that red snake she has got on her chest. I drew her outfit just the outfit she has in the original art. It just looked perfect the way it was so I didn’t want to change that style. Her hair in the original art is curly but I decided to change it to straight but when I was working on the hair strands I decided to change it to wavy hair. ^^

When I finished working on the sketch, now it was time to start the coloring process, I started with coloring the character‘s skin and that’s what I usually do because it would be much easier choose the tone of other colors for the hair or outfit. I used natural skin color to paint her skin. After shading and highlighting with darker and lighter tone then I went on coloring her facial features and outfit.

When I was coloring her dress I decided to add some lines to make it look more detailed but I kept the overall shape just the original. Only added few lines to make it realistic and detailed. When I finished working on her outfit, I drew the red snake on her body and worked on her tongue. Now it was time to work on her hair and add more detailed. I colored it darker and then used a hair brush to add some white hair strands. Then I kept going on and added more hair strands.
I kept the background dark and simple because there wasn’t much to show in the background. In the end, I added a new layer on top and set the layer on multiply and then used a green color to paint the whole canvas. These days I tend to do this technique to change the colors the way I want and I really liked the result. What do you think about this? Doesn’t it make a big difference? It is as if the character is under a green light so it affects the whole thing. The reason that I used green light was that in the original art the background is green. It was the perfect color for this character. ^^

And about the brushes that I used for this portrait: I always use a soft brush and hard air brush for coloring, shading and highlighting everything. I specially use the soft brush for skin to have a clean and smooth skin. And for drawing and adding the details on the hair I used two brushes: the first one was a hair brush and the other one was light brush. It’s perfect for drawing the single hair strands. I also use this brush for drawing the eye lines or eyelashes. I use the hair brush for drawing the eyebrows too.
It was really fun and enjoyable to work on this portrait of “ Iza the Fanged “ I hope you also liked her portrait as much as I enjoyed working on jt. ^^
See you next time ^^

Now let’s see the progress ^^
