Hello everyone~~ ^^ How are you doing?
Here’s my drawing for the Splinterlands Art Contest. For this week’s contest, I decided to draw “Possessed Puppet” portrait. One thing that is really interesting about this card is that it is one the most scariest cards in Splinterlands that looks cute too!
It has been a long time since the last time that I made a fan art of this character. I just checked and saw that it was around two years ago! I have improved a lot in digital art since then and I couldn’t believe that I used to draw like that in the beginning and wish I could delete them all :))) That time was the beginning of my digital art journey and I was not really good at it. There were a lot of things that I had to learn about because digital art and traditional art are so different. I still have a long way to get better at digital art and make the portrait look more realistic. ^^
For making this portrait, First, I draw a girl and then drew the remarkable features of the character. I changed her hair style because I thought she would look more awesome this way. I also drew a big mouth with some teeth just like the original art and I made her look so scaryyy :))
After I finished the sketch, it was time to color the painting so as always I started the coloring process with coloring the skin first. I used purple color to paint the skin and after shading with a darker color I used a lighter color for highlighting some parts of the skin. After that I drew a crack on her face as it’s broken just like the original art and then worked on her mouth and teeth.
After that, I worked on her eyes and then colored her dress and hair. You know that, my favorite part of every drawing is working on the hair. I remember that I have always hated this part because I didn’t know how to make it look realistic in digital art. After coloring and shading I drew the hair strands to make her hair look more realistic and detailed. And then after that I added more details on the dress and ribbons. In the end, I drew more hair strands and worked on the background. I kept the background simple because I wanted the focus to be on the character and the details. I just painted the background red and then used a textured brush to add some pattern in the background. I didn’t draw the bloody knife in her hands so I decided to add blood stains on parts of her dress and the ribbons to make it look more scary :)) The possessed puppet is a doll but I wanted to make this puppet come to life and make it more realistic like a human and I somehow managed to do it. I really liked how it turned out in the end.
And about the brushes I used for this painting: I used soft air brush and hard air brush for coloring, shading and highlighting the skin and the rest of the drawing. And for the hair details, I used a hair brush to draw the hair strands. And for adding the details I used a light brush for drawing some hair strand and drawing the eye lashes. I also used a textured brush to add those patterns in the background.
I hope you liked this painting as much as I enjoyed working on it ^^
Now let’s see the progress ^^
