Splinterlands Art Contest
Hello everyone ~~ ^^ How are you?
Here’s my drawing for the Splinterlands Art Contest. For This week contest, I decided to draw “Janni Rebel” and make a realistic portrait of this character. Since the first time I saw this card, I was like omg! I like everything about this character’s style! So when I was doing the sketch, I didn’t change much about her style and I tried to draw everything just like the original art of the card. She didn’t have any necklace but I felt something is missing there so I decided to draw a necklace because I didn’t want it to be empty. I drew two simple necklace just like how her earrings were simple. I also liked the black and red marks on her face. It makes her face more unique.
When I finished the sketched, it was time to color the portrait and as always I started with coloring the skin first. So I chose natural skin colors to paint her face and body and I used darker shades and shades the parts that should have been darker than the other parts. And after that, I used lighter colors to create depth. After that I added highlights on her skin. To make her skin look more natural I have a technique and it’s that I add a layer on top and then set it on “overlay” and after that I use a pink color and color the whole skin with a soft brush. This way we can fix the skin tone. I always do this because without it the skin looks dead! :))
When I finished working on the skin I went on coloring her facial features and other stuff, I worked on her dress and facial features. When I added the base color it was time to add glow on the gold parts. After that I worked on her hair. Her hair is blacks and since there wasn’t any lighting on her hair I decided to draw some hair strands on her face body to make the drawing look more detailed.:D
In the end, I drew the black and red marks that she has on her face. I thought it was the last stroke and the drawing was finished but at the same time I felt it was not finished and something was missing. I looked at the original art and yeah! It was the white magic around the character that I missed adding into my drawing. So I added a new layer on top and drew lines like the original art and then and after that, I added some little lightings around her. I personally avoid messy and full of shine backgrounds and prefer it to be simple but the magic was part of the character’s features and the portrait was incomplete without it. Although the result is so shiny, I really liked it ^^
And about the brushes that I used for this portrait: I used soft brush and hard brush for painting the skin and used the smudge tool to have a smooth result. For her hair I used a light brush to draw the single hair strands. For the magic effect I also used a light brush and then used another brush that I don’t remember its name for adding those little lightings. It was not among the default brushes. I found it on a website that shares cool brushes and I find it so useful.
This painting turned out to be one of my favorite artworks of splinterlands and I really enjoyed working on it. I hope you also like it ^^
Now let’s see the progress ^^
Very close to the image on the original card. You accentuated the brightness and colors more. Best regards, @atem.art
