Reverse Speed Modifier In Focus

(Edited)

Reverse Speed Modifier changes the normal rule of battle because the lowest Speed units attack first and have the highest chance to evade. This means 1 speed units now becomes the fastest in the game. Many players forget to adjust their lineup and that can cost them the game. Make sure you use 1 speed units with high damage to maximize the modifier's effects or you can follow some of these tips to make things easier in your games.

Modifiers

Reverse Speed - Units with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.

  • True Strike makes sure that this unit attacks cannot miss. In Reverse Speed Modifier, this is very important because many units with low speed will have high evade chance. If you still want to use high speed melee or range units, True Strike ability keeps their damage reliable and consistent. This ability removes the frustration of missing key attacks in important rounds.

5 Combos You Can Do with Reverse Speed Modifier

ModifierNameDescription
True StrikeThis Unit's attacks cannot miss
- True Strike makes sure that this unit attacks cannot miss. In Reverse Speed Modifier, this is very important because many units with low speed will have high evade chance. If you still want to use high speed melee or range units, True Strike ability keeps their damage reliable and consistent. This ability removes the frustration of missing key attacks in important rounds.
VoidReduced damage from Magic attacks
- Void reduces damage from Magic attacks which is helpful in Reverse Speed Modifier. Many players prefer magic damage in this Modifier because magic cannot miss normally. Having Void on your frontline unit helps reduce that consistent magic attacks. Having a counter on your enemy's potential strategy is a good and easy way too win the battles.
BackfireIf an enemy misses this Unit with an attack, the attacker takes 2 damage.
- Backfire deals 2 damage to an attacker if they miss this unit. In Reverse Speed Modifier a 1 Speed unit with Backfire becomes very scary and very deadly. Since enemies with higher Speed are more likely to miss, they will take damage often. This ability punishes units with high speed and turns their high speed into your advantage. Remember that this ability won't work if the enemy has magic damage and you don't have Phase since magic damage always hits.
PhaseMagic attack can miss this Unit (using the same hit/miss calculation as for Melee and Ranged attacks)
- Phase allows magic attacks to use the same hit or miss calculation as melee and range attacks. In Reverse Speed Modifier, this becomes very strong because magic can now miss on units with high speed. A 1 speed unit with Phase will dodge more attacks including magic. This gives extra survivability and makes it harder for the enemy to rely only on magic damage to bypass the hit mechanics.
SwiftnessAll friendly Units have increased Speed
- Swiftness increases the Speed of all friendly units which is usually good but not in Reverse Speed Modifier. Increasing Speed can make your units attack later and miss more if they have melee or range attacks. This ability can accidentally weaken your lineup in this modifier. Players must remember to avoid Swiftness and its counterpart, Slow. Remember to not overdo abilities that increases speed like Last Stand, Martyr and other similar abilities.

Battle Breakdown

Early Game:
The enemy's Grove Doomblade is probably one of the best unit to use in Reverse Speed modifier. It has a slow speed of 1 which means he is the fastest unit in this modifier. It makes use of his 5 melee damage and with Sneak, this is a deadly unit to use. I am glad to have Torrent Sniper put in the back since I was originally put Endless Ape in the backmost. It pays to always be prepared against enemy Sneak. My Elowen Sylphie build though is mostly tank units so it's not really as deadly to be in this situation for me.

Mid Game:
Grove Doomblade is doing a huge deal on my backline. I am happy that this build has a lot of tanks which makes surviving the strong attacks easier. Because of Resurgence as well, even if Lioceros dies, I still have 4 units alive since both the last surviving units will be revived again to attack and defend once more. This archon is surprisingly strong and I feel like I will have a lot of wins using this archon.

Late Game:
With the Death of Grove Doomblade, this secured my win in this battle. I am really surprised at how strong this team is and I feel it would be exciting to see a battle in Born Again modifier with high mana. I want to know how high Endless Ape's health can go and how more explosive this lineup can really be.

Closing Thoughts

Reverse Speed Modifier creates very interesting battles because everything feels flipped. In this match, Grove Doomblade was very dangerous with his low Speed and strong Sneak damage but I survived because my lineup had many tanky units. Resurgence also helped me stay in the fight if those units died during the battle. After Grove Doomblade was removed, the battle became easier and my advantage was clear. Reverse Speed Modifier shows that understanding how speed works is very very important.
